One thing I cant understand is why none of these springs do NOT sit flush/flat when installing them.. I know it probably does not matter but IMO it would be better if they sit flat when the spring is not under pressure.. What i mean is when you have your secondary broke down and the helix is off.. You put the spring in the pocket/ tang in hole and it sits cockeyed in the pocket instead of being level and flush in spring pocket.. I have tried 4 different secondary springs and they all seem to sit at a angle .. Probably irrelevant when helix is installed and spring is compressed?? Just something i notice

Is this @ 3/3 or 6/1 ? I would think a bit more twist would help with this rubbing your seeing... 21121Ok guys took my dalton black orange out you can see what I mean by rubbing in picture. 1500 miles on stocker and no rubs like this. Also I noticed on the one end of spring right before correct me if I am wrong the tang ( clutch newbie) there is a almost kink in the coil its not perfectly round like rest of coil. IView attachment 139192 View attachment 139193 s this just the way it is on one end or bad spring? You can kind of tell in second picture but can see it better with naked eye. Any thoughts and help is appreciated.

Maybe I can help with that.
The reason you see them all sitting at a angle when not installed is this.
The desired aprings are requesting "more side pressure". More side pressure is created from longer free length.
When you take a spring and stretch it longer the springs have coils that come farther apart. This creates a bit of upward angle on the end coils to achieve the free length. This would have all the coils as "active coils"
now, you could make the end coils flatter.....but then of course, in order to get the side pressure and free length, that would stretch the two center coils WAY far apart, and then the two end coils would be "inactive coils"...so the two center coils would be doing all the work and the stress limit would be exceeded in the design and the spring could not be produced if not within design limits or it would probably fail or lose tension very quickly.
.....and then...you "could" ..alleviate that by adding more wire...more coils, ...but then you would have the coil bind situation that everyone did not want, right?
...so you make more coils active and the end coils will be pitched upward a bit. It is easy to see that it is common like that anyway on many OEM factory springs in other vehicles. The yamaha stock secondary springs are traditionally very short ( and too many coils for that matter)...so they are fairly flat end coils.
A spring with a longer free length has end coils upwards like you are seeing on aftermarket springs that are longer with less coils. The springs will sit down when you get it installed of course, but it does appear awkward when it sits in the clutch.
As some on here will know, there are tons of arctic cat and other torsion springs that look like that when you first set it in there.
The side pressure and torsion of this spring has worked very well for many. We have had many good tuners use them who have done a lot of testing with many configurations and keep coming back to this spring.
We have had a couple of these springs break...It is not fitment related but I'm going to post another topic on that in a few mins.
Hope this helps with your question.
