What I failed to mention is I never tried the Orange TP spring other than 3-3. It may work very well in 3-2 or 3-1 but after I already bought the Dalton B/O and liked how it performed I figured I would stop there. I really don't care for all this testing crap. I much prefer just riding my sleds.

I tried the dalton dtya1s today. I asked for the dalton black blue primary spring but received the black teal which is 72/142. Surprising the engagement is 3500ish and it is quite friendly and easily trailable. It still has really great slow speed manners. I was concerned that it would break the track loose upon engagement but not even close.
With the dalton weights I mph'd faster at 6-1 with the dalton black orange secondary. 3-3 worked better with the flatter profile 60ys STM weights as I proved yesterday.
Overall I'm much happier with the dalton weights as it's quite easy to make changes on the lake.
The dalton spring is top notch and I'm not worried about popping belts as clutches are cool at both 6-1 and 3-3.

So you are running stock cast 35 helix and Dalton spring, with no shims under bolts, and no coil bind found? That is what we like to see, great info. thanks PeteOK I just got back from testing my sled with the Dalton B/O secondary spring. My sled is stock tune with the TP big venom primary clutch kit. I have the stock 35 helix and tried the Dalton spring both @ 3-3 and then 6-1.
First I tried 3-3 and when I installed it I wasn't very optimistic because there was very little pressure when I twisted it. The reason being and I'm sure most know is the Dalton need more twist because of the location of the spring tangs. Well I decided to give it a try. I hit some fresh powder and it only took a second for the sled to fall on it's face and squeal the belt. I tried this for some time but it would continue to do it. If I stayed out of the powder it would run but lacked the snap I'm used to. I kind of expected this to happen.
Next I went to 6-1 and while installing it I felt more confident it would work better because it had some decent pressure. I then went out and hit the deep powder again and no matter what I did I could not duplicate the sudden stop and belt squeal. The snappy feeling was back and the sled ran great in and out of the powder.
I would not recommend going 3-3 with the Dalton spring unless you can test it first with the ability to change it back to 6-1. In other words don't set it to 3-3 and then head out on a 10 day backpack trip because I don't think you will like it.
So I ran the sled pretty hard through some loose powder for some time and then checked my clutch and belt temps using my super accurate five fingers and palm. My clutches were COOL to the touch. In comparison when I had the TP orang with 33/35 Dalton helix my clutches were HOT and so was my belt. This is the reason I decided to try the Dalton spring and go back to the stock 35. For now I got what I was looking for, a great performing set up along with cool clutches. I now know for a fact that HOT clutches and belt are not the norm with these sleds and they can be corrected.

That's awesome brother, glad to hear, the Dalton ramps the dtya1s are they heavier base than the ramps he sets up for stock sidewinders?I tried the dalton dtya1s today. I asked for the dalton black blue primary spring but received the black teal which is 73/143 I believe. Surprising the engagement is 3500ish and it is quite friendly and easily trailable. I can still walk the sled around without it spinning the track.

Good, and you like that teal primary spring too,i have both of dales blue/blk and green/blk the green blk I got for grass dragging, with a lot less finish than that teal,i may have to get one to try in the future, first those weights you now have, and maybe a new tune next year.

I experimented with the stm 60Y as well. Now I’m back to Dalton’s. I know they don’t have the range of adjustment. But my sled likes the profile better I think, and I sure like the ease of adjustmentI tried the dalton dtya1s today. I see best top end speeds with the Dalton Weights....They just plain work, and so easy to add/subtract weight. The DTYA1 seem to be a good base weight for the 240 to 270hp maps(79g), and a tad light for 290map. It would be awesome if Dale had some slugs that were heavier material(ala tungsten) for the TIP.
I think the stock 35 works decent, and is best for STOCK or LOWER HP, or NON Early SPOOL tunes...but for the 270 map or higher I like the 39/35 more. All works better with dalton B/O at 6/1 for sure, be it stock to big power. I see no need for reverse angle helix with any range HP.
I would like to test the 270 and 290 map now at 6/2. My guess is it will make more heat on top and lakes ect..but I bet it would be a damn blast in the trails....I may test that this weekend.

^^^^I'll be on the same program this weekend now that I have an iPad, I'll be able to try out the bigger tunes with more confidence. Going to wrap the B/O 6-2. Might even try that other Orange one.

^^^^^ what characteristics are you shooting for? You want quick up shift or good back shift. What do you have in there now for weights, springs?
Full disclosure here. I'm no clutch expert, but these are the things that will help determine the components. Also I would throw that question out on the "clutch gurus which helix" thread as to not derail this one.

How would you compare the Dalton weights and your setup now to the stage 2 Ulmer kit? I just received the stage 2 part which is a 42/36 ish helix with a red spring. I'm assuming the red spring is a dalton red spring. I have a black/blue dalton primary spring the Dalton black/orange secondary spring. So if I decide to try a set of Dalton weights which weights would I need to get for a TD powertrail tune? I'm headed up to the Ft Kent area of Maine next week and I'm gonna bring my tools so I can test my current setup to the Ulmers stage 2 setup. I didn't get a chance this weekend to try out the Dalton b/o spring. If temps cool back down at least overnight to firm things up locally I may hit Togus pond and see.I tried the dalton dtya1s today. Primary
Ulmers kit
Pink spring
Stm weights
Heel- 2 washers plus small washer from Apex kit each side
Center- 3 washers each side (new adjustment)
Tip- tungsten each side.
I do like the snappier bottom with the 33/35 and got better trail mph compared to the stock 35 helix. I'll be in the county for 4 days so I'll do a little testing. Where's the best place to just buy the Dalton weights since I have the springs thanks

You must be making good power cause with powertrail I had 2 washers in the heel and 2 tungstens in the tip. (Using stock helix and stock spring or Dalton black/orange)
Now when I ran the TP secondary spring at 3-3 I had to load the weight to the stms to get the rpm down, I probably had 86gr or so but I ditched that spring due to belts exploding issues.
Ulmers kit worked good, I just can't leave well enough alone I guess. Once I fine tune my Dalton setup (I have a 41-35 Dalton helix coming) I will run both and compare on my TD GPS.

No allens red secondary spring is I think a cat spring, and on that helix does he want it wrapped to 9-1 so 100 degrees.Do you have stm ramps and allens pink primary spring, and what does he have for hole location and weight in each hole? Because this is what I am running now,and I told him I was slipping my belt in primary half way up,and the sound was scratchy when taking off,it shifted good and held 9000 rpms, and both clutchs cool to touch as well as belt,i just did not like the slippage, and he told me to try apex springyellow silver yellow, and leave ramps empty except tip.How would you compare the Dalton weights and your setup now to the stage 2 Ulmer kit?
