Does anyone know what the decible level for the hauck, excell, and white knuckle exhausts are for a yamaha vector? I just need an estimate before i purchase one of them. Also what is your opinion on the three of them? which one is recomended? thanks!

well not sure on the sound decibles, but i do know that most of the tests done by dnr or officers that give tickets out to loud exhaust systems r illegally done, since they do not follow the law. u live in vermont so not sure bout there but here in wisconsin there is a very specific way of recording the decibles and an officer cannot give a ticket because he thinks its too loud. i have not heard the excell exhaust, buthave heard the white knuckle and currently own the hauck exhaust. i love my hauck exhaust, and it does sound better then the white knuckle exhaust, without changing the stock look. now if u want just one pipe then go with excell but that butthole look isnt for me, but i do have to say they sure made that pipe for the phazer look really nice

oh also i woudl recommend not gettin the hauck exhaust if u plan on running studs. i ran tunnel protectors and still chewed through my exhaust pipe. but some guys have had luck with the tunnel protectors and studs so i guess maybe it was just because i bottomed out so much....i dunno

Don't know about the Vector but the stock Apex is around 84 db and the Excell is advertised as around 94 db - I believe I read that in WI the db limit this year is 88 db - if any of this helps

ah no..actually the 19 year old giving advice. only way dnr is going to be able to tell the exhaust isnt stock is if he knows exactly what hte can looks like, or if there is another rs stock that he can compare it to. i read that there is a specific way that dnr or sheriff have to check exhaust decibles, and most dnr or sheriffs dont even have a decible reader. i've gotten stopped twice and not once have i got asked about loud exhaust...its all how u drive. sorry stock isnt for me

If you buy the Excell high flow header (as big of a HP gain as any actual system out there) you can run the stock silencer so you won't gain any loudness at all!

Here is what I don't understand - most states have noise restrictions for numerous vehicles - motorcylcles, ORV's, ATV's, etc. - they range from 94 db to 101 db depending on the vehicle and the year it was built - why would a restriction of a lesser db be put on snowmobiles (like WI's 88 db restriction) than these other vehicles - especially when you factor in the damping effect of snow on noise - a snowmobile of 94 db is going to sound alot quieter from 100' on 12-18" of snow than any of the other vehicles of 94 db running around on bare ground - am I right or am I right or am I right?
(I forget what movie that was from)

you think 88 in WI is bad, in VT the decible level has to be 73 at 50' is what i just read. how rediculous is that? stock sleds even break that law sometimes!

Sound pressure (db) would diminish considerably at 50' - common test procedure is 18-24 inches from the exhaust outlet - be kind of funny to watch someone check the db in VT - gettin out the 50' tape and db meter - "OKAY START ER UP!" LOL

fine

They say the deciables but in wisconsin it dosen't matter how loud or quiet it is if you modify or aleter the stock exhaust in any way you will get a fine.I got a fine last year.

If that is not how the law is written I would be fighting it - that would be like writting you a speeding ticket without having you on radar - they have to back it up!?
