I just bought a base model phazer and am going up north this weekend to ride. Did you guys do what the manual says:
-For the first 100 miles, do not take it past 8k RPMs for a prolonged period
-For the next 200 miles after that, do not take it past 10k for a prolonged period
Just wondering what everyone else did.

I'll be following the break in per the manual. It's a bit frustrating, but seems to go fairly quick.

I did it last year on my Attak, and with 150 ponies, that's a tuff pill to swallow for 300 miles. It only took a day and a half though.

I think I am doing it alright soo far, doubt it will last 300 miles, also, what do they mean in terms of time by "prolonged"?
5, 10, 20, 30 seconds?
or?

I put 107 miles on my FX last Saturday and to stay under 8k RPM, is way too difficult, I really just rode it, however I did pay attention to the RPM's and didn't hold the throttle in one spot for a long time. I wasn't much above 9k and was only going 40mph. After the first 100miles, 40mph was right around 8500rpm, just starting to get things loosened up...

Im still taking it easy, I have done WOT for about 5-10 seconds, but that was yesterday, and Im at about 200 miles. Otherwise I am just taking it easy on it, long warm ups, low rpms.
I think someone should write myth busters on engine break-in. Holding an RPM for a long time vs varying the RPM, or HIGH RPM breakin vs low RPM breakin.

Lake crossings at WOT is prolonged. Nail the throttle until revs are near or at max then back off keep changing the speed you ride at and dont be scared to pin it for few seconds.
