Put my Yami skid plate on a few weeks ago. I wasn't the biggest fan of drilling out the four holes in the sub frame larger and then using aluminum nuts. I went to the hardware store and bought four steel clips and used 1 1/2" 1/4-20 stainless screws. It worked really well, requires no drilling and you can replace them if needed. Anyway, just an option.
Here's a pic of the clips. The ones in the pic are 5/16 but 1/4 works better which is what I ended up using.

great idea caleb! i opted for the steel nutserts v.s the yamaha aluminum ones. i know my habit of over tightening would lead to issues with the aluminum serts.
keep an eye on the center of the plate between the nose cone and bulk head is. it will pack snow in there then melt, then bow out the plate. if you dont beat out the ice at least once a day it will rip the front of thr plate out of the nose cone. (been there done that bought the t shirt).
that is why i made the two piece skidplate. works perfect. alot better looking than the yamaha/skins float monstrosity (in my opinion). and works alot better than the ultra plate from yamaha, as far as keeping the plate intact and no snow/ice to worry about ripping the bodywork off. ski
