Well I am not very happy with the results of my ring free shock treatment on my 03 rx1. Went on a 140 mile ride today, oil was on full at the beginning and was down to 1/4 on the dipstick at the end. The mobil 1 0w40 is burning up just as fast as the 0w40 amsoil was. Next oil change I will try the recomended 5w30 instead of the 0w40 and see if that makes a difference.

Yamaha had Ring issues around 05. Does your sled have the bad rings? Burnt oil from what I've read here.

don't they recommend yamalube 0W30 semi....all my yamahas never burnt oil ever using yamalube

If he has a stuck ring it won't make a difference what he uses.

03 and 04 RX/Warrior 4 cyl. had ring issues. If you check the parts fiche you will see the ring part #'s changed for 05. Nothing more to it than this I would bet.

Yes it's an 03 and I am aware of the ring issue with them, I was just hoping to get lucky like some and have the ring free work. A ring job will not happen so I guess I will just drive it. At least it will always have fresh oil in it. ;)! Just wondering if going to a heavier oil like the 5w30 the manual calls for would slow down the blow by and slow down the consumption a bit. I guess I will find out next year.

On my 2003 RX-1 Ton I burnt (blew out the pipes) 1 quart of oil every 400 miles , a true gem,
gave up on the foo foo oil and went to the cheapest oil i could buy, super tech.

My 03 RX1 would burn 1 qt about every 500 miles no matter what oil I used, fuel and oil treatments were used made no differance. I traded with over 18,000 miles and she never left me stranded..... just carried extra oil like a 2 stroker!

I had an 03 rx1 and it did'nt seem to burn oil until 2200 miles. But at 2200 miles I switched to amsoil 0w40. I blamed it on the oil. It started right away burning 1 to 300 miles.

Rings were updated in '05 and reccommended updating 03-04 RX-1 with the updated rings. Oil usage wont go away no matter what oil you use or what additives you run through it.

My 04 does not use a drop from start to finish of season. Stomper if my sled did use oil I would just run a 5w30 dino oil and run it like you stole it. They sell a 5 gallon pail of it at wally world for $55.

Thanks guys, thats kinda what I was afraid of. I was hoping the ringfree would work. The sled runs great so thats not an issue. Next oil change I will switch to a cheaper oil and just run it like it is. At $12 a liter it will get a bit expensive using the mobile 1. Whats a good cheap oil that can used in the 4 strokes. If you can use cheap and good in the same sentence. Probably just go with the conventional oil instead of synthetic but do I need oil that has no friction modifiers or does it matter.

Why not try some of the high mileage car oil ?
Won't matter......it's the freaking rings......went through that myself......my 03 always burned about a qt per 600 mi no matter what oil I tried.....change the rings to the newer ones and good to go........

Walmart sell 5w30 $55 for five gallons. Use it and drive it like you stole it. If anything I would try and put the ring free into each cylinder and let it sit over night and do it again the next day. Then crank the engine over without plugs to dry things out install plugs and go for a good long hard ride.
