Do Vectors have over heating safety?

I was running the old gas out of an 08 Vector I just bought ,and after about 20 minutes of idling it shut down and shot some coolant out the bottom. It over heated. I let it sit for 2 hours and then topped up the coolant and she started up and idled for about 2 minutes and then ran out of gas. It appeared that that all was ok. Is there a over heating safety on these sleds?? I'm hoping it shut itself down before any damage happened. Dam!

Yes they do shut down when they hit a predetermined temp. I have had mine shut down on the trail when it was ideling. It will let you start right up again so you can head for some loose snow on the side of the trail. The feature is built into the sled.
 
Thats good to know. I suppose the coolant dump was the boiling coolant spitting out the discharge hose on the reservoir. When this happened ,I've got to say ,I just about sh*t. But ,I was assuming Yamaha might have added a sensor for this. Thanks Vectornut.
 
As long as the sled is at an idle you are alright. If you are riding down the trail, it will not shut itself down.

I THINK the EFI Vector's will go into limp mode if the engine is overheating and you are going down the trail. I highly recommend some type of digital temp gauge for either the carb or EFI Vector's. Ulmer Raching sells a kit that is EASY to install. Not the fanciest, coolest looking display but it seems bulletproof. I have 14,000'ish miles on my Ulmer gauge that's on my 05 Vector. Also put one on my 14 LTX.
 
The sr vipers go into a limp mode if they get too hot. My 2012 vector did not have a limp mode. Maybe newer does.

As mentioned the sled will only shut down if it is at an idle.

We are still developing our engine saver II. This system will contain a temp sensor mounted in an aluminum valve cover fill cap. It will monitor temps of actual engine rather than coolant. The factory temp sensor is only feeding accurate data to ECU if there is coolant. I've had customers throw picks through exchanger and over heat engine to point that spark plug coils melted in the head because they never got an overheat light.

Our system will sound an alarm and have a flashing LED light if motor reaches unsafe temp.
