Trying to get the filter off for the first time, it won't move.

I'm using those rubber clamps that I had when I use to own motorcycles.
called boa's or something.

Please don't tell me to drive a screw driver through it :)

A filter wrench will do it, though most of the band type wrenchs are too big. What I've done is put a rag over the filter, and then put on the filter wrench.

The boa straps look like a great idea, but don't really work.

i got a cheap strap style filter wrench from canadian tire for about 5 bucks. not your quality tool but for how many oil changes i do its good. and yes the first oil change that thing NEEDS a tool. was tough even with a wrench

I used the actual oil filter oversize channnel locks.($10 at auto zone, meijers etc.) It was on there tight. Yes my gasket from old filter stuck to the bottom of the motor pulled right off with a screw driver though no problem. Easy oil change compared to phazer.

X2 I got mine at Princess Auto. If you run the OEM filter you can also use the cap or socket style filter wrench but mine wouldn't work on the longer aftermarket filter I use.

Same here. I made no progress with the rubber clamps so I tossed them. I ended up wrapping the filter with a bit of rubber type material to account for the larger diameter of the band type wrench.

Most of the wrenches are too small for the filter that is on there. I took the new filter with me to the auto store and made sure the wrench fit. I ended up getting the filter wrench that looks like a pair of chanel locks but the teeth are curved. Just be careful if you use it to tighten the filter back up because I dented one.

x2 also use this type of oil wrench, works both on sled as well as filter for my FZ1 bike

Filters should only be installed hand tight, never tightened with a tool.

Correct, lube seal with a smear of oil, hand tighten and don't reef in it.

Also I see the pic isnt displaying in the thread I linked to...

band style wrench>

I often like it better then channel lock style, as often I'm limited for space. So the short handle on the band style fits better

thank you, I realize that. I was just lying on my back, under the sled with my hands over my head. I didn't have much leveraged and just lightly turned with the wrench. I didn't crank on it, have done it 3 years in a row with no problems getting the filters on or off.
