Do you need to drill rail to mount Yamaha's marginal snow wheel kit on the FX Nytro RTX?

Sevey,

I hate to laugh, but wow, LOL! That was some "little bang". How did a "little bang" into the idler wheels transmit such loads to the exhaust collector and oil tank bracket? With sudden impacts, even 15 kph can result in violent transmissions of energy. Did you hit something hard under the snow in that ditch or did the sled get wedged into the ditch? Were you able to rider her home or did you need a tow? Do tell... :)

Happened early last winter. It was a real sharp ditch that crossed the trail. The groomer drug snow across it but with no frost in the ground it had collapsed. Certainly not something you would expect on a trail. I tried to hop it and pinned the throttle, the skid caught it hard. Banged the tunnel bad. At least the front didn't go in, I likely would have went over the bars.

By the end of the ride I knew the exhaust was hurt. Didn't notice the crack in the one rail till mid season after going to Quebec. Managed to just take the idlers off to limp to the end of the season. Didn't notice the other crack in the rail till summer overhaul and then the oil tank. Cooked the best part of a g note over that little bang. With those kind of land mines it was questionable whether that section of trail should have been open. A young guy in his twenties died running a section of trail close to this that is usually smooth, and was pock marked from the groomer. No doubt they were firing through that section as usual, only to discover terrible trails. Lost control and that was it . Makes you wonder.

I mounted 2 sets of the little wheels on an 05 vector, where the slides showed wear. Drilled holes. The little wheels spin really fast, but a few needle greases a season and never had a failure.
