Im seriously considering a holdover rmk 600 144....ill keep my apex MTN for out west trips and use the RMK for the U.P.
Sounds like you have a decision to make. Fun factor or engine longevity. The more I ride my 2-notmuchsmoke the more I love it.

I know the assault is an 800, but the coming year they offer it in a 600. The handling puts my phazer mtx to shame, it's stable both on and off the trail, yet effortless to carve in the powder. Side hills are second nature to the assault, where as the phazer is white knuckles and sweat. Sure the controls and finish aren't as plush as yamaha, but whens the last time you were in mid flight and looked down at the bars and said man that hi low beam switch looks sweet. As far as reliability, you won't find a better 2 stroke motor than the 600 liberty. If you feel like bashing, do what makes you feel good. I'll keep the phazer in the stable since it's still dear to my heart and runs like a champ. Going to let my throttle thumb do the thinking on this purchase and hopefully not have to use any of the three years worth of warranty. Yamaha bring me back to the blue side in the near future.
I made the same error. I rode a 13 Pro RMK, a 13 XM and my MTX back to back. Fell in love with how the Pro handled. It is sooo much easier to ride off trail. I'm not a high mile rider, so I think I'm going to take the plunge and go buy my first non Yamaha sled.

Just got back from Maine a week ago and the one guy in our group with a 600 pro r popped the motor with 298 miles on it. Guess why he got a new sled this year......... Because his 600 poo last year took a crap on him with around 1500 miles on it. I will stick with my yami that has never left me stranded, you know, it didn't leave him stranded either because he rode on the back of my sled for the 72 mile trip back to the hotel. They ride nice but they just aren't as reliable as a yami.
they may not be as reliable but I am sick of the weight of my apex MTN....I love the motor...there is nothing else like it...if i do end up buying a 2 stroke again ill sell it the day yami ever puts the 4holer in a light chassis....

It's tough to make a machine really light that can handle the power of an apex. They would have to take fifty pounds off the chassis to make up for the weight of the motor
alone. Unfotunately the cant make a four stroke as light as a two smoke, that's why they make chocolate and vanilla, whatever tastes best.

if i sh!t money, ide be temped to put the nytro motor in a polaris chassi and turbo it, lightweight and reliability. i love the nytro to death, but by the end of the day playing in the powder your beat. then you watch ur buds with ski-doos and polaris' effortlessly carving and boondocking. but i dont know how it happens, my buddies renegade and switchback (both 600) get stuck and i can catwalk right beside them. they hate how my skis dont touch because of the crusty snow now. my nytro is being an ornery beetch this season with more than niormal issues with it. but when we go out to ride i make it pay hahaha.
Buddy of mine has a 2012 switchback pro-r. I really like it, tried it a couple times. Handles well, rides nice, awesome seating position, and has good power for a 600....But his burned down last week too. I always thought the 600 Liberty was A fairly bulletproof motor too until lately. I just think a lot of these two stroke problems have to do with todays fuel, and of course that's what his dealer blamed it on.
