Familiar story - my wife was riding her 07 phazer and rolled over on the left side. She didn't shut it down; it idled for a minute or two then shut off by itself. We rolled it over, checked the oil level and it was a little low. I fired it up and it ran for about 20 seconds, then shut off. Check engine and trouble code 30. I have since drained the oil from the crankcase (no metal particles) / oil reservoir and changed the oil/filter. I fired it up again, still ran 20 seconds and shut off with code 30. I pulled the fuel tank and took out the oil pressure port bolt which drained a little oil. I turned over the engine for several seconds and nothing came out of the port. I'm thinking a) oil pump lost its prime, or b) oil pump was damaged when it ran dry. I hooked up a mity vac to the oil pressure port and it does not draw any vacuum.
Any ideas folks? Besides buy a rollover valve kit...

The first thing that comes to mind is, why did it take so long for the engine to shut off when it should have sensed the lack of oil (either the lack of oil in the tank or lack of oil pressure within the engine) and shut off within a few seconds? This would make me suspect a possible problem with the sensor or sensors responsible for letting the ECU know it needs to shut down the engine. If there were a problem with the sensor(s), I would think that it could be possible that the ECU is also now receiving a false signal telling it that the oil pressure or level is still too low.

Thanks for your reply. My wife's estimate of time running is most likely flawed. I will test the sensor later - great idea. What has me concerned is nothing coming out of the pressure sensor port. I have read on other posts these pumps can loose their prime?

Plug the vent hose on the oil tank and apply some light air pressure through the dipstick hole while cranking. That is how I get mine primed a lot quicker after an oil change.

Bingo! I pressurized the tank, turned it over a few times and no codes! Thank you for the advice. This site is fantastic.

Knowing the air pressure trick is manditory for Vipers, usually the Phazers prime on there own after a few tries.
