It's been said before change your drive axle and jack shaft bearing before they go, the drive axle bearing went out at 6300 miles. First thing that went out was my speedo, then it started to make noise and had no choice had to drive it back about 7 miles to get out of the woods. The worst thing is it took out the speedo sensor that costs $80.00 so I'm changing all the bearing to be on the safe side. So its best to change the bearings before they go out, the sad part is I was going to change them this fall but didn't so it's going to cost a little more now. So if you have least 5000 miles on your sled change the bearing before they go. Sam

I don't have the miles you have. I had 700 miles last year. Before the season started I read about the speedo bearing and jackshaft bearing falures and decided to check mine. I took off the gear and brass looking cover. Then pried out the bearing seal and the bearing looked just fine. New looking grease, no water, rust, ect. I put some extra low temp. synthetic grease in the bearing and sealed it back up. I did the same with the jackshaft bearing.

You gotta believe that if those bearings get wet they will rust. If they get low on grease there not going to function properly. I'm going to keep my stock ones in there and just check them at the end of every season.

Just curious, do any of you guys with the bad bearings take your sleds to the car wash and spray them off?

I use a needle greaser and get behind the seal and grease both bearings about every month....more if I'm riding more.

LOTS of water comes out.....it amazing they dont fail sooner.

Sled almost done

Jack shaft bearing was good but changed it anyway the real bad news was two bearing were gone on the rear axle wheels. The center wheel you can change the bearing the other two you have to get new wheels so I had a center and one outside wheel bearings gone. This is the first sled that I have owned that have the rear axle wheel bearing go bad. Yamaha must be using Chinese bearing as they are not very good. I guess what can you expect with 6300 miles on the sled its going to need some service. Hope to get it back today just waiting for a wheel to show up. Sam

Indeed there not... but it says "Romania" on it; which is probably worst than Chinese.

In any case, i get rid of the two outsiders at 10k km, to replace it for the Yam accessory whells. I believe $35 each, which is half the price of the one with none changeable bearing. They also have a gray insert, (bit different than stock) and most of all, you can swap the bearing with your chioce.. and yes; it comes with guess what, a "Roumania" bearing.

Sam, I was up north last wekend & had to stop over at Ave's & asked Jerry if that was your red vector sitting out there in the parking lot waiting for parts. He said it was & how did I know that because I was from IL.. I told him that I belonged to TOTALL Yamaha website.
