hey,
It seems that at higher speeds, 55mph and higher, my drive belt is contacting the bottom of the belt guard intermittenly. I can hear it, and see streaks on bottom of guard and a worn spot on outside top edge of belt. Anyone know what would cause this?
Thanks!

Bent guard? It's a close fit normally anyhow.

The secondary not back shifting quickly enough might allow some slack in the belt, or the wrong length belt. Just a couple of thoughts.

Wrong belt, Belt starting to break apart, Possibly blown bearing behind the secondary?? Pulling secondary forward and up under load??
Pull belt, pull secondary off (one bolt, super easy, make sure to place shims back in or loose any) Wiggle shaft. You'll be able to inspect bearing.

Thanks everyone. The belt is a yamaha 8gs. Old phazer belt i believe. It is in good shape. The belt guard did not appear to be bent or mishapened either. I will check the bearing and dive into the clutches when i get a chance. Thanks again
