What is everyone using for drive belt on a stock RX-1, is the factory yamaha the only way to go or should I look at other options. Also what do you do to prepare or break in belts.

Thanks Dennis

I've tried Dayco and Gates Belts only to return to the stock Yamaha belt on my 04 Warrior ;)! The others don't even come close!
I just install the belt and take it easy for a bit, warm it up, and then I let it rip
Never had a problem :bump:

changed mine after five thousand miles, still ran fine. Put the new one on and it squealed really bad, at idel. Installed the small washers in the 2nddary and it still did it. So I put my old one back on! Runs fine! Both were stock yammi belts. When I compared the two one was slightly longer. Honk

I use stock belt 8DN in both my sleds. I break in a new belt by taking it easy on the throttle for the first couple of miles, then I ride it at or under th speed limit for another 30-40 miles. When home I clean both the newly broken in belt (mild soapy water) and my clutches (break cleaner). When belt is dry I put it back in and I'm ready to rock'n'roll.
I always break in a few belts like described above and put them on the shelf so I always have a broken in belt ready when needed.

You would want to REMOVE shims to get rid of the squeal. Removing shims causes the bolts to tighten in further, which forces the sides further apart. When the sides are further apart, the belt sits lower and the squeal goes away.
