I OWN A 2003 GRIZZLY, MY PROBLEM IS THE REAR DRIVE SHAFTS. THEY SLIDE OUT OF THE REAR END WHEN I HAVE SOMEONE ON THE BACK. THE RETAINER RING SEEMS TO WEAR OUT . WHEN THE DRIVE SHAFT COMES OUT IT CHEWS THE END OF THE SPLINE WICH IS NOT GOOD.YAMAHA REPLACED THE SHAFT THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED AND INSTALLED A NEW RETAINER RING. THE BIKE HAD 3000MILES ON IT. SINCE THEN THE OTHER SIDE CAME OUT TWICE AND THE ONE YAMAHA REPLACED CAME OUT AGAIN. THERE MUST BE A PROBLEM WITH THOSE RINGS. ONLY WHEN THE SUSPENSION IS SQUATTED THAT THIS HAPPENS. ANYONE SEEN THIS BEFORE

I have not had that problem and we doubble up on the Griz quite often. It maybe a problem that surfaces with time as mine has only 450 miles on it now.

do you turn up the rear suspension when you ride double?

Had the same problem found out about the new style "C" clip that the dealers don't seam to know about PN 5Km-2536e-10-00 or most people just put a rubber "O"ring under the "C" clip and snap them back in.

Had the same thing happen to my "03" Grizz also. Dealer repaired under extended warranty but said had never heard of it happening before. Only happened when I had my son riding on the back. Did not have the suspension turned up all the way. I caught it before much damage occured. Hasn't happened since.

I am having the same problem, cept I blew up the rear diff cause of all the crap that was in there that I thought I had cleaned out. Tried putting in the new rings and even that didn't help. Will try putting an o-ring in the slot to see if that helps out.

i installed the new clips on one side and it didnt come out since. when i installed it, i opened the clip a bit (my dealer's suggestion) it was a little harder to pop back in but i think it helped out. make sure that the spline on the end of the shaft are not rounded off cause it will keep sliding out. we have lots of grizzly's around here and about half of them have this problem.its something that yamaha should recall or find a fix cause its really annoying.

Is the driveshaft coming out or the CV joint?

Has anyone had a 2006 do this?

You would think the extra rider would actually keep everything in. I have concern because I plan to double up alot with my wife, and that sure would be a bummer on a ride.

How do you get it back to the truck when this happens?

axle

I have an 05 with 2000 miles 99% riding 2 up never a problem, I do however have a problem steering once in awhile(That is until I get slapped up side the soup sucker by the ol lady)

i put on 3000 miles before this started to happen, with alot of two up riding. seems like the c clip wears out after a while. it did it on both side on mine. its the drive shaft that comes out of the rear end. last time it happened to me i was in a deep mud hole and i heard a funny noise, when i got out of the hole my bike was pulling badly on one side, that's how you notice it. i had my buddy squat the suspension as much as he could then i pushed it back in and got back to camp. :rocks:

So, possibly if we replace the clips now and again, maybe the problem can be avoided in the middle of nowhere. Say, every 2,000 miles? And how does the new style clip differ from the old style? :yam:

the new c clip is said to be made of a different material for strenght.besides that it looks exactly the same. ive changed 2 so far in 8600 km. pretty easy to do.youre better to inspect them every 2000 km and change them just in case
