Is there any way to get rid of annoying droning sound besides ear plugs, or music? I just did a long trip on a 06 apex gt.This is my 1st 4 stroke and I heard it is a common thing. Any tips would be great!!!

Are you sure your exhaust is stock, I replaced my Hauck exhaust with a stock one to get rid of the drone. The Hauck was on there when I got it. Usually the stock is pretty quiet

my 2011 also has it. somedays it bothers me more then others. like others i've learned to go faster or just use my ipod.

I find that it resonates louder at 6300-6500 rpm so I try to avoid that area of the tach if possible. I have in-helmet speakers and would have to turn the music up to 11 to drown out the exhaust so that's not healthy but if you use good in-ear speakers (ear buds) it would probably be better. Anyone have the noise cancelling type?

you really do not need to have the music that loud, I find just having the music as a distraction is enough to take your mind off of it.

Yeh it only gets annoying if you are cruising in the sweet spot. Myself I am on/off the throttle so it doesn't bother me.

From my understanding that was one of the reasons Yamaha went with the EXUP to remedy the valve timing overlap.

it surprises me that there is nothing out there to fix this. no aftermarket system. I know motocross bikes have an exhaust insert to make them slightly quieter.

we all got used to it. Just a charactoristic of the beast.
It still shines in many many ways. I love the engine brakeing for one. Not to mention the smooth pull and power of the beast.

It's not just the engine, it's the howl of the track and engine together that makes the drone. It goes away after 40 mph.

My wife has the 2010 Vector LTX which is the same machine except her's being 3 cylinders. Hers don't do it.

I should clarify that I'm speaking about an Apex. At 30 - 35 mph the track howl and engine/exhaust noise gang up on the ears. It fades away after 40. You get use to it though.

I started wearing ear plugs this year and they seem to be working well for me. That drone is obnoxious. I try to stay away from that speed/rpm.
