Could you use E-85 in a turbo sled and run higher boost seeing how it has a high octane rating?

More cooling and higher octane rate.
Hoping for some good results

In the Car world We are making STUPID power on E-85 so Yes it is good stuff if you have it readily available.

Do you need to re map for e85? Or can you just use it in place of race fuel?

Remapping or rejetting is necessary.

does the fuel system need to be changed like lines, pump or seals to run e85 or can you get away with just jetting up?

Ted: What or how are you getting this power. Meth, timing, etc? Fill us in my man.

E85 is 105 octane ( a little less in the winter) but timing and boost level can be increased over 91 pump gas. We have two seasons on our E85 Turbo Apex with awesome results. We have run the same timing and boost level as on equal octane fuel. The fuel map does need to be set for E85.

carb issues
we have been having lots of probs with ethanol in normal regular gas giving us grief in small motors ie needles sticking water in fuel would e85 not magnify these probs

What I don't get is if it has more octane why does it make less power and less fuel economy vs gasoline?

Octane have NOTHING to do with fuel economy / fuel energy.
well... maybe a very little bit with energy.... but not too much.

Energy is power right? Octane makes power with compression. I'm confused!!

Because it is 85% alcohol, it has a higher octane rating. Octane is needed to reduce detonation. No power from octane. Alcohol produces less power for a given volume of fluid. Hence, you need more alcohol to produce the same horsepower as gasoline. I have a 2005 Suburban FlexFuel with a 5.3. Using 87 octane with 10% ethanol I get 19-21 mpg on the highway. Using 93 octane with no ethanol I get 20-22 mpg on the highway. Using E85, I get 15-17 mpg on the highway, and there is a noticeable lack of horsepower. I continue running 87 octane with 10% ethanol because the price difference is to great to offset the cost. Hope this helped in some way
