Hey guys, just thought I would ask as there are some really smart guys on here. E85??? I added a Supercharger to my Camaro and when I added the Flex Fuel sensor and tune I was able to gain 80 RWHP on E85. Would our sleds benefit from this? I assume you would have to tune for it like race fuel? I was thinking you could do something like a multiple tune and when you had E85 push the button for like 330 HP and if you didnt have enough E85 roll it back to 270? Is this a waste of time because race fuel is less expensive and easier to find? I think they do it in the chevys because it is easy the sensor senses more than 50% Ethanol it auto switches to the higher timing table and I get more power. If the sensor doesnt see enough Ethanol it just goes to the 93 octane tune to be safe.
Sorry there is not enough snow to ride so I am bored LOL

Our sleds would benefit greatly using E85. Good luck trying to get a tune for the ever changing percentage. Maybe a stand alone Motec with closed loop programing could factor for it, but for certain will need big time fuel system upgrade along with it. No way would a stock ECU be capable of tuning for the changing alky percentage.

Yea what KA said is spot on.
You will need a lot more fuel, so that would necessitate larger injectors and fuel pump.
You would be able to tune the fuel with a power commander but for optimization you would also need an ignition module for timing control. If your looking to utilize a flex fuel sensor then a stand alone would be required.
E85 starts harder in cold weather and finding places along the trail would be extremely tough, atleast around this area.
Tuning would be difficult on the trail, it’s to bumpy for the utilization of virtual dyno software to work correctly, so gains would be difficult too measure.
IMO it would be much less of a hassle to just throw in a 1/2 tank of race fuel and dial up the 330 tune. Sidewinder turbo can’t push even close to enough boost to utilize 112 or 114 octane race fuel, running it straight is a waste.

In 2010 i ran E-85 on my Nytro turbo with Mcx and i used a Rb3 to change the ignition and the fuel on the stock injectors.
The map need 30% more fuel on E-85.
Its hard to start in coold so we used a el.resistanser on the wather temp sensor with a switch to start when the engine was cold.
I had a map switch to the rb3 so i could switch map to pump gas or E-85.
BUT E-85 is hard on the oil and tubes so recomend to change oil often.
E-85 is great to use as a racegas becouse it cool down temprature and you can boost more, but you also have to have enough spark plug ignition with heavy boost.
So if your not are using your snowmobile for dragracing stay away from E-85.

Cheapest solution is good 91 octane with some Lucas or Torco, can run the 300hp tunes no problem. If you really need another 20 horse or so on the trails, water/meth injection is your best bet. My buddy runs his 1100 cat at like 22psi on 91 pump gas with no knock light with meth injection. Runs neck and neck with my 290 winder at that power level, and he can barely beat me when Im running the 270 tune.
If you really want to live life on the wild side, spray the meth right into the compressor of your turbo. Apparently when you do this, your turbo can flow more air than what is theoretically possible. If this winter continues to be shitty with no snow, I will try this out on my sidewinder. Pre turbo meth injection should really help with lowering the IATs on this sled. 1% power or so for every 10* you can drop the IATs.
Heres some reading on the subject.
