While installing the kit I did take out the pilot jets for inspection. I found that all four pilot jets were clogged with dirt. I will go up to 22.5 pilots as the 17.5 stock pilot jets are so narrow everything gets stuck inside them. I also checked that all pilot screws were set at spec, 2 turns out.

Kit was installed per description with 165 mains and silver Holzman carb springs. WOW what a nice sound it makes now both at idle and when you give it some throttle. Great first impression.

The increase in power is very significant not only at low to mid range, but througout the powerband. Before the kit it went 10000 rpms and topped out at 10100 at 1/8 mile. Now it goes 10500 right away and stayes there. I have not noticed any burble in the 5000-6000 area. I have not noticed any hesitation what-so-ever. Throttle response when you pin it from idle or any other position is instant. My sled flat out rocks now. Temps when testing was -15 C or 5 F and altitude was close to sealevel at about 50 meters or 150 ft.

I think some of the problems a few people has encountered with the kit has to do with a few key elements such as pilot jets, main jets, pilot screws and syncronisation of the carbs. It is so easy to overlook just one of these and your sled won't run as supposed to. BTW my needles are lowered (leaned out) 1 clip from stock and still no burble or hesitation. I believe these two problems are caused by clogged dirty pilot jets, and if some and not all of the pilots are dirty I guess the carbs goes out of sync.

Next job is syncronisation of my carbs with a manometer and putting needles back to stock setting. I also have to do some clutch work some day soon. Maybe buy a new helix with a lot steeper starting angle to take advantage of the huge torque increase down low. What helix would you guys recommend, I run the HH's in the primary.

It worked great with a micro belmont 52/44 silver spring at 80 deg

Is there any negative effect to the filters over the airbox??

I have not experienced any negative to speak of. I also have the evac kit to suck air out of the crank case, only thing you have to do is to remember to drain the resoir so water does not enter the engine thru the crank vent breather hose. With the filters on engine noise is slightly louder, you will get some intake noise without the airbox on, it is in fact a silencer. I like the sound of the sled with the filters on, wacking the throttle wide open makes the engine roar like an angry lion :-)

have you put the 22.5 pilots in alrady

On my 2003 RX-1 I did go to 22.5 pilots and pilot screws at 1 3/4 out after having problems with stock 17.5 pilots clogging up with dirt. I also installed silver slide springs and raised needles back to stock position 3 or middle position. After that I had my Yamaha dealer sync the carbs. Sled ran flawlessly for 2 seasons that way.

When turboing the 2003 RX-1 I moved the filter kit to my 2005 RX-1 where it has worked very well for the last season. Carbs settings is as follows, silver slide springs, 165 mains, needles in stock position, 17.5 pilots, pilot screws out 2.
