the thing i dont understand is that i am not using the evac with my filters. I have been running the breather that comes with the kit and the stock "catch can", Im still seeing enough pressure to push oil up and out of the breather. I cleaned the clutches on saturday and took a short ride (about 20 miles) and it happened again. The air temp was about 20F so im thinking tht it is more a engine or RPM issue. I think that my clutch setup is running a little to high (RPM) at about 10,500-11,000, could this cause the problem? Is the Yamaha 5-30 to thick? I am going to try a different breather and add weight to the clutch to bring the Rpms down.
If anybody has some thoughts please post.

New evac box
I installed the LP box and used it this weekend and it worked. No oil anywhere. Couldn't even find oil in the box. Before this I had LARGE amounts of oil all over the belt cover and I don't mean a mist. The whole hey to eliminating the oil is more, larger vents.
Buckeye said:I agree the air kit is not the cause. But simply lengthening the hose is not the answer. In fact the longer the hose is the more the pressure will increase, i.e. more resistance to venting. You need less resistance to the vent. Either a larger vent, not easy since the stock vent is 5/8" or more vents to a higher point so that residual oil that makes it that far will drain back to the source.

Buckeye, what is the phone number for your kit? I don't have enough miles yet to know if I have a problem yet or not.
But once I get this thing dialed in, I probably will, and I may as well do it now, while there is very little snow.

I was getting more oil than you would believe. There were puddles of it on the belt guard. Hard to tell how it affected the dip stick. I would back off on the hard running when that started. There was oil everywhere. Now none.

I haven't been able to find out exactly where its coming from, but I have a fair amount of oil getting sprayed on the foam on the underside of my hood just above the primary. I've checked the crank seal behind the primary, checked the hoses, etc., and I can't find where its coming from. Its on the hood but not all over the engine for some reason. I just attributed it to part of my oil usage problem, and a fairly minor symptom at that, so I'll worry about it after I (or Yamaha if things work out) fix the oil consumption issue. I don't even have ECPs, so its probably not related to what you guys are getting, but its kind of funny that we are still getting similar symptoms.

my valve cover leaked oil on my clutches this weekend after what I belive to be a frozen baffle in my crank vent line. You know, that plastic box that is mounted on the frame above the primary, well it had water in it and belive it froze.
Here's what I did, remove black plastic box, run a ten inch crank vent line directly to ECP K&N crank vent filter, make a bracket for crank vent filter so there is no low spot in line, remove stock carb heater line on left side and replace it with a 2 foot 1/4 inch line and run it right against crank vent line. wire tying them together and looping back around to carbs, take a cap off something like a spray can and cut it in half screwing it to the top of the vent filter as to shield the clutches from any mist [ sounds crude I know but I belive it to be effective ]
I hope this set up will eliminate any further line freezes
any other good ideas welcome
sorry for the shitty typing and grammer!!!!!!!!! I guess those five years of high school did me no good!!!!!!

Nationwide we have seen frigid cold temperatures. Whem this happens the oil gets thicker and thustly creates more oil pressure. I have very successfuly used zero weight and "LESS THAN ZERO" weight oil in high performance motorcycle engines. I am sure the RX1 and Vectors would benefit from this as well.
I have been dynoing a Vector for a few days here at ECP and you would not beleive the oil these friggen engine push! They literally have a totally different design that the RX1 in terms of oil recapture. It should be noted that the vent is on the right side of the engine as well.
I fail to understand why you aren't all just running the crankcase vent to the other side of the engine compartment???

Like I stated in the other post about this issue of oil...simply extend the hose from the black plastic catch can and run it up hill to the other side of the engine compartment. Running up hill is so the oil could drain back into the engine due to gravity. If you are experiencing the condensation freezing in the hose, simply take some hot grips or nitrous bottle warmers and wrap the hose in the offending area (I would suspect the lowest point of the hose) to prevent freezing. The longer the hose, the less chance of the oil finding the end.
Many are experiencing no oil from the crancase vent line...others are.

I fail to understand why ECP is selling this kit with a short tube and a cheesy chrome breather, and then instructing us to route a tube across our engines and rube-goldberg some kind of heat system for where we think its freezing? In both of our instances, the ice had melted by the time we looked for it, so how would we know where to heat what?
After freezing breathers on two 2005 RX1's, and oiling the clutches and belts on one, and just making a mess of both in general, I question the reliability of my new $8000 sled. Sure sucks to drive 11 hours and screw up your weekend due to lack of ECP R&D. Don't know about everyone else, but I ride my sled in the winter, so it's likely to freeze again.
Maybe I missed the fine print on the kit, but I don't want to be a test pilot; we buy new sleds, in part, for reliability. Had I known there was the potential for this problem, I would never had bought it.
If you're a lake-burner and don't mind babysitting this problem, it might be viable. For those of you that travel 150-200 miles per day like we do, and never stay in the same spot, this is, in my opinion, a risky proposition.

I have the ECP kit with the evac hooked up I checked last night I have no oil what so ever any where.Last year with stock airbox I would find oil by the primary clutch. If you don't want to make an evac then move the breather to the other side or take it off.I also ride to my destination sometimes hundreds of miles from my truck no concerns for me with the ecp kit.I love the filter kit works just like it was designed to .Thanks ECP

Look patr...I have installed many of my air kits and not one single time have I experienced oil from anywhere. I have taken customer sleds out and ran them at high RPM's only back and forth on the lake literally all day and no oil is present from anywhere. You think you are a test pilot? How about the hundreds and hundreds of kits sold all over the world. Don't tell me about R&D or lack of it! I try my best to fool proof everything I bring to market. But I cannot fix problem that doesn't exist...in my case. I believe that some are having this problem but until I experience it, I can do nothing. Your engine would push oil regardless of wether the air kit is installed or not. I am not sure where you are located but if you wanted to make the trip to my shop, I will help you...for free!!!
I am offering suggestions. How many have you tried?
