2018 Sidewinder LTX/LE 50th
I was at the Big East Show in Syracuse NY. on Saturday. A local guy was selling an electric power steering kit for the Sidewinder, Viper and Cat's. The kit looked well made and very thought out. Name of the place I believe was GSE Performance. It looked to have a similar motor as my Big Bear ATV. Show special was $1,300. Sorry no pictures, left the phone out in the truck! PS, Roc said HI to everyone on TY.

He had it on a sled at Ohio grass drags cpl weeks ago. He’s really nice guy. And as far as steering effort it makes it steer like a car. However $1300 as show special price was way over my budget. I was thinking 6-800 for the in my mind target price

Did you buy it Mike?? My Apex was an 07, so no PS on it. But I did try an Apex with the power steering and it was nice.

Ya I agree with fxnytro that 1300 dollars is a lil steep...and it’s more if you buy it now, not at the show price I’m sure.

In his kit tho the power steering is full time. On the apex it was only low speed. Like upto 15-20mph. It’s nice and he was a very personable guy and awesome to just bs and chat with about sleds. But that price.

Oh ya that’s right...good point about the Apex only being at low speed..forgot about that.

Nope, just passing it along. With the 5.7 pilots on mine, she steers just fine!

As much as I love easy steering, I found the winder to be dang good stock. I’m coming off the Doo 1200s and always struggled to make it steer easy, had no choice but to run Snowtrackers on it.

I put the barn of parts easy steer arms on the winder last season and found the winder to be incredibly easy steering in just the second hole. I see no need to have it easier than that and I have tendinitis in both elbows, but some may want to spend the money and want the added weight and complexity of electro power steering.

Nice to have options.

Does anyone know how much weight the electric power steering kit adds to the sled?
I see the kit is listed at 20lbs but some parts are removed from the sled as well.

About 13lbs. I have one, and offset that weight increase with a lithium battery. You really can't feel that weight...plus it's low and over the skis.

Thanks.
Are you happy with the kit? I thought I would lighten up the steering for my wife as I made the mistake of letting her ride my Winder...LOL...now she has claimed it and I am back on my Attak when riding with her.
Its all good:)

Thanks.

I had The barn of parts MPS on for 2 years and it does work. During the off season I removed MPS kit and added the electric power steering. I’ve got an issue with my shoulder that has gotten worse over time so I bought this kit at end of last year they were on sale on GSE website.

Here in PA the winter sucks so far, there’s a storm coming Saturday so hopefully I’ll get to try this GSE power steering system out. I’m concerned with system not limiting power assist at higher speeds.
As soon as I get out on the trails. I will write up a review and add it to this thread. It’s a nice kit and it fits very well on the winder.
Maybe someone who has one has some hands on riding experience will chime in.

Joe

Give me a couple of weeks and I will give a comprehensive report after my next trip. The twisties performance is awesome, but there are some high speed compromises that I'm trying to tune out. After my next trip I will report my findings but I don't want to say too much more. I'll say that once I have had this it's pretty hard to accept not having it..
