I managed to sink my '03 RX-1 in saltwater and I'm wondering what electrical components will most likely fail even if I clean them thoroughly. Magneto, starter, voltage regulator etc... It did run after that terrible incident so I'm thinking the main wire harness and wires are OK. I want to fix it right the first time so I'm willing to change whatever I need to change. Thank you in advance for any advice you may have for me,
I would say to hose it off with soap and water, then dunk it into a vat of WD40 or furnace oil. Then soapy water it off again. Then you should be fine. It might be difficult to get a vat that big. Maybe a big tray and bucket.
I would wash it as well, but soak it good with silicone instead of the wd40. Silicone is an excellent dielectric and will improve electrical insulation just in case the salt caused any breakdown.
