Started sled this AM and put it on buds trailer, 4 hour trailer ride to VT, unloaded and headed for Gas, filled up went to restart and nothing, fuel pump cycles gauge goes dark and just a faint clicking noise. Got it to a dealer and he says the starter is shot. Battery is dead now but he hooked up a jump pack and bypassed direct to the starter and said it just smoked? Any advice or ideas thanks in advance.

If the dealer jumped the relay and it has a good battery then I'd also say you have a bad starter. The starter relays are know to stick after starting the sled which keeps the starter motor engaged while the engine is running. This will eventually destroy the starter motor. Another problem the Yamaha starters have is the internal magnetic that are glued to the starter housing come loose and lock up the motor. Either way it sounds like a starter replacement is needed. I'd also install a new relay when changing out the starter.

Thanks Grizz...that was my fear, is there any truth to being able to change the starter without removing the engine?

I've never changed one on a Nytro. I've pulled motors but never ran into a bad starter on one yet. I read on hear that it's possible to change one with removing the motor but I believe motor mounts need to be unbolted so you can rock the engine.
