TrueBlue, I can only speak for Phazers and MP/Lites as these are the sections that I watch closely. I have a 2014 MP, my next door neighbour a 2010 and a buddy had a 2007. In this model Yamaha made some progress for the first few years and as far as I can tell the problem still exists in later models, albeit not as bad. If you are ok with mechanical then I'd go 2017. I get along with my hit or miss push button but I rarely reverse and when I do I don't have an audience of buddys chirping about my crummy sled ... which could get old pretty fast. Hope this helps and good luck with the new sled.

vectors have mechanical reverse.
The 2018 Vectors do not have mechanical reverse. They now have electronic reverse.

Does anyone know if the 2018 Vectors have the Arctic Cat chain case or is it Yamaha chain case. It could make a big difference

I am pretty sure it is a typo. In the pics you can see the lever. Jim

I agree. I looked at the picture of the 2018 Vector & it shows the reverse lever. On the specifications sheet it shows electric reverse. Does anyone know for sure.

What I saw under features, it said electric start and reverse. I think they are just saying it has reverse and electric start. And there is a beeping when you put the thing in reverse with the lever.

I now saw where it says standard push button under the reverse specs....interesting...but I still think it is a typo, but you never know. I bet yamaha would say more about it on the site if it really was "new".
Flawless on the Sidewinder. No moving the skis to get it to actuate like the Phazer.

the pictures are often old pictures. if you look at the picture of the extra tall windshield for apex it shows the standard one with no supports.

Although I never have any problems with my reverse on my Viper, I believe it is unnecessary on a four stroke. The system on 2 stroke were the motor turns backward is cool and saves weight. It saves no weight on four strokes when you add the actuator and wiring. It complicates the chaincase. The mechanical reverse works fine and has less chance of failure, and if it does fail can be tended to on the trail. Those who complained that Yamaha was behind because of no electric reverse on the Apex/Vector were lazy and don't understand what they were talking about IMO
I am with you, it was an unnecessary marketing gimic so the brochure could say push button reverse like their two stroke competitors. Added weight and complexity for no real good reason.

Does the 2018 Vector's have the push button reverse or not. Who knows for sure.

Had mechanical on my wife's 02 Viper ER and her 06 Rage as well as my 10 Nytro.
All could have freezing issues when you were playing in the snow.
Have push button on both 14 Vipers, they have been flawless on both.
The push button is the same as the transfer case in your truck, electronic versus mechanical, is necessary, No, is it nice Yes
