Riding conditions are such that I am now riding my Attak with smaller lug track and ice scratchers and have started doing post season work on my SW XTX with its 1.75" track.

Info:
-Tuned SW with 2500 miles this season
-lots of high speed lake and rail bed running
-8DN belt
-21/37 gearing
-16oz Klotz graffite chain lube
-chain adjusted to Yamaha specs

Chaincase inspection results:
The good
-chain, shift forks look good
-I had red loctited chain tensioner roller bolts and they are still secure
The Bad:
-a bit of sludge that is metallic and sticks to speedo magnets
-top gear bushing is visibly worn and actually looks like it has been " chattering" on the jackshaft...I had no
operating issues...yet

Bushing wear theories:
-not a lube problem as I had overfilled chaincase and was running high quality chain lube
-not an adjustment issue as it was factory specs and adjusted regularly
-top gear appears to have been chattering on jackshaft probably for a few reasons.
-top gear doesn't align properly with bottom gear and I found that both spacers need to be behind gear to get outer edge of bottom gear lined up with outer edge of top gear combined with the mismatch of the 13wide bottom gear and 15 wide top gear creating constant minute gear movement especially at high rotational speeds.
-I also think the small 21 tooth top gear would have more wear issues then a larger 24 or more top gear

Possible solutions:
-I will continue to overfill chaincase and adjust to factory specs
-I am going to run 15wide top and bottom gears
-I really like the 21/37 gear ratio combined with the 8 x 3" drivers on my sled but I am going to change my gears to 26/46 that will result in the same overall ratio...Scott Taylor custom makes them and his gears are forged so there should be less metal wear that mixes with lube...they are also both 15 wide

I won't know if any of this will help until I take it apart again after next season...nothing ventured...nothing gained
