hey fellas, I had an engine cutting out problem on my ‘18 ltx. Ran like a champ all day, then parked for a couple hours, then it started surging anything over 7000rpm. I went home and found out lots of pressure build up in gas tank when I removed cap. My fuel vent line was clear but the plastic elbow valve going into the tank was the issue. I removed it and poked lockwire in both ends. I’ve put in about 50 miles and it seems to have fixed the problem....I hope! Check yours if you had this same problem

Sounds like there is an update for that elbow and not all 18's got it. Is your elbow red or black?

This is the one I have. Black plastic elbow connected to fuel tank and vent line. Is there an update?

Mine is a 17 and ran great last year, but now this year, once and a while it lets you run wo and than again it fall on its face once opened up and going, than just shuts down, till you back out of it. Gas is ok fresh 93 it back fires sometimes after you let off from wo after it shuts down. Not sure if gas line may be pinched or not we did have seat and tank off, when we wired my lights up.

Yep the red ones are the old ones and the new ones are black according to facebook posts. Some are drilling them out larger (red ones) but I'd think you'd just want to get the updated part. I plan to call this week to see if what is being posted on FB is accurate.

Actually I see you are referring to the black one. Maybe not the same thing I am talking about as I am referring to the red elbow in front of the black one you are pointing to.

I bought an updated elbow on my own, seems like it made no difference in mpg or performance of the sled. But the check valve does seem to be some sort of issue of the tanks building pressure.

What happened after you ran that wire in the check valve? Did it push anything out of it or make the hole bigger?

The check valve is supposed to build pressure, or at least hold pressure in. All sleds built now have a valve to hold pressure and not allow vapors to escape.

The cutting out is not caused by pressure that is certain.

Now if the vent was plugged and couldn't allow air in, then it would starve on fuel and surge or even quit as its running lean with reduced fuel pressure.

My sled is still cutting out. Put new 93 ethanol gas in and took it for a slow ride today. Hit the gas and same as yesterday. I will have to check the red elbow tomorrow. On the bright side I can still do 65 plus before it hits the 7-7500 stall. I would love to find the problem before I put it in a heated garage. I am sure it will thaw out and be fine only to happen again when it gets cold.

My sled was making the high pressure whistle sound and building tank pressure. I just pulled the check valve off and blew into it and it made the whistle sound and didn't seem to let much air by. Used the smooth end of a drill bit and ran it in both ends. Felt like I could feel the valve flap move when I pushed the bit in there. I the blew in it again and no more whistle sound and could feel more air blow by. I am wondering if maybe the check valve was sticking and building all that tank pressure? Will be interesting to see if it makes any difference in my quest for better than 10 mpg.

So Justin, the black plug on top where your finger is almost touching is the one you pulled out and opened up with wire? Correct? We pulled the red elbow just below the plug your finger is on,and drilled that one out a tad, reinstalled it,but have not run it yet. So can you exsplain it step by step what you did? With pics if you could.

Mine has red elbow on 18.

I have never had pressure when cap removed....

So are all red ones bad i wonder?

Yes! If you take it of and look into it you will see it narrows. Its to smal ,its not letting enough fuel from the regulator into the fuel-tank.
