Engine drain plug threads stripped

A friends 07 Apex has stripped threads on the engine drain plug . Had an oil leak all winter , looked into it a lot this past weekend and had a drip on the plug , new washer and plug won't tighten up .
So .... Is there a cheater plug that small ? Install a helicoil in the pan threads ? Or has somebody came up with a better fix ? Thanks Doc

I would say a heli coil or build it up with weld and re cut the threads.
My only concern would be is that you make absolutely certain that you get all the filings out of the pan.
