the etec is a great alternative...but forget longevity and when you need some of those repairs it will be expensive knowing it most likely would be dealer only at least for the parts...the 1200 has a deal more torque and the motor is oriented reverse which allows it to sit lower in the chassis than the yams..lower cg equals better handling... single throttle body is lighter than triple throttle bodies..overall the sled is 20-50 less pounds which doesnt hurt handling...but the nytro is headered and triple throttle bodied ....its a sportier feel...add a header and fuel management to a 1200 against a nytro fitted the same and they both will run...but still the nytro will feel like a sports car and the 1200 a sedan...
to me this is a two horse race 1200 and nytro...set up right either can outrun the other by a tad...with top end stock to the 1200...
ski's,handling and shock valving goes to the doo..
fit and finish and overall perceived quality to the yam...
when doo unleashes their clutch controlled low boost supercharged 1200 it will be lights out to yam IMHO
uh that is unless yam unleashes what they have hiding ; )

Is that the motor they have in their big jet ski? There are a lot of big powerful motors in those giant jet skis. I'm a little surprised some of them haven't showed up in snowmobiles.

Rumor I just heard was a 1500 CC Rotax, ski-doo tripple at 160hp. No Supercharger... The 1200 will be gone and will be replaced by a 1000 big brother of the new 600 4 stroke that they just released, pushing 125-130hp. The existing 1200 is not a Rotax motor, but designed by Rotax/BRP and built by Perrelli. Probably in 2012 or 2013.

Id find the 1500cc motor hard to believe...cooling issues alone...and a 1000cc twin...sure hope it doesnt shake , rattle and roll like a harley v twin...

The new 600 ACE is a twin, but it's not a V-twin, it's an inline, so I don't think it will shake that much. I was thinking SJ mentioned V-twin in his post.... Yep, the old first randition of BRP's 4 stroke was a 1000 V-twin.... Pretty pethetic for a snowmobile motor. They now run that same detuned motor in the ATV's and it rocks. Ton's of bottom end torque...

I was referring to the fact that twins can have harmonic and vibration problems...but they are getting better so who knows..a 1000 twin fourstroke with direct injection does sound interesting though..
