I added a 4th wheel kit yesterday and greased the wheel. I thought I would check the other wheels and each wheel had no grease on the bearings. Bone dry, man was i surprised.

Everyone check your wheels adn grease them.
 

How are you greasing them, pealing off the seal same as the jackshaft and driveshaft bearings?? If so, do you have to remove the wheels from the skid or can they be done on the skid??
 
I take them out of the wheels it oly takes a minute to take the snap ring out and to take the bearing out of the wheel.
 
I have not looked that close but I was under the impression the bearings did not come out of the yammi wheels??? I thought that was why everyone was always looking for aftermarket wheels for their skid.. Am I wrong on this??
 
Know your right. some of the newer Apes you can replace the bearing.

That being said i changed the top two 6205 's on the skid this year and the new bearings had the equivelant of a pee size drop of greese in them. This is right out of the box. So pop the seals on the replaceable's from the box and grease. 2 different manufactiures same thing.
I pop my seals couple time a year and grease have almost 10,00km on the originals.
One day i will hit the spellchek button.
 
shanksyamaha, yes I took out the wheels, pealed the seal off, clean the old grease out if any and repack BOTH side and reinstall. I will do this every year. Easy job. My sled has only 1475 miles.

You can repack the center wheel on the 06 Attac plus the fourth wheel kit too! ;)!
 
do this atleast at the end of every season (spring) to reduce the oxidation over summer storage. But really should be done again in the middle of the season, and possibly more depending on mileage and conditions you ride in. I also agree to do any new wheels that you may install as they do not come with enough grease from factory.
 
Grease them all, molded in or not.

I always do my jackshaft and driveshaft bearings about every 1500 miles. Im an RN so I grabbed a syringe and 14 gauge spinal needle and that works great for greasing bearings. I can slip the needle right between the ball bearings and place the grease where I want. My new (to me) apex only had 380 miles on it when I got it and I was able to put 10ml of grease in the two bearings alone. Thats alot of grease. It needed it.


Can you get the seals off all the suspension wheels relatively easy?? Im gunna see If I can take a look at it today....
 
note to all....when greasing the bearing dont overfill.....too much grease will definately not roll as well and have other negative effects...

YEP...
...You should be using a Good Quaility Bearing Grease that's rated for cold temps....I like the "Molykote 33 Light" which is a Extreme Low Temp Grease.
...Don't over pack the bearings as it will bring the heat up in the bearing and the inner & outter race ways, as well as it can purge the extra grease out of the seal. You see that more on lower qualitiy greases.

...Be careful when pulling the seal off as to use a pick and go around pullling the seal a little bit at a time and when placing it back press it in with your fingers and tap it in with a wooden block where it's tight.

...I use a 3/4 socket that I've machined down to fit inside the bearing so it can only push down onto the steel part of the bearing for both pushing it out and pressing it back in.

I might want to redue my wheels? I packed them with Amsoil lithium purple color bearing grease for wet applications that I bought at Farmington Recreation.

I packed each side and put on the seal, used my finger to push the seal in. Some extra grease did come out. Same for each side. The wheel rolls but not a continue spin as like my Viper?

Should I redue the bearings with different grease?

I also need to do the jacksaft and other bearings. I have to read that report.

i like to use a larger socket when installing bearings,that contact the OUTER RACE only.

thats the grease I used to use throughout the sled...for bearings its a good choice but I only fill the bearing about a 1/3rd...
rust prevention...and washout resistance is the key here...
for all suspension parts I use the lighter red...keeps the suspension stroking when it gets cold...my riding friends used to laugh at me and say it wouldnt make a difference til they'd be complaining their sled rode like crap (frozen) and mine was buttery smooth!
