Evo NA Reflash-biting the bullet

Put on 125 miles today on nice tight trails in the cold. NOW I have RPM. Nothing changed except conditions 8900 right where I want to be and that is with the Gates belt.

I was also out riding on Saturday. Probably not the best day to try and pull top speed runs. I tapped it open on the rail grade north of Medford, but it was -5 deg F at the time with flat and super hard conditions. I could only pull 90mph and was all over the rev limiter doing it. On a 20 deg F day with good conditions, I've been able to reach 96mph with my setup and 1.5" track, right at 9000rpm.

Not sure how much of the gain was cold dense air and how much was snow related. On some stretches I had to be careful or I'd spin out hard when accelerating. Most trails were fast and set up hard as nobody was out. There were a few sections that were a bit loose from traffic and I could not get the same speed. What I did feel was good pickup when running 70mph part throttle and canning it which is something I have not been accustomed to.

I plan to try to get out a couple more times to test secondary spring changes as well as a different set of weights, but it's already a lot warmer...

I don't know that conditions will remain after this week, but we should try to get together and run side by side on the Eau Pleine or something like that once.

My 15' ltx dx runs great, Start's good and has no starter kick back, should I stay with the 15' base map, or get the 14' when ordering my Evo flash.

Well if your not having a problem why change mine was kickback every time. If your not boosted and life is good party on

So here is some more feedback fro my level 2.5 91 octane flash. I don't have just a ton of miles on it due to conditions.

Starting:

Cold engine from room temp to freezing or below: Engine starts quickly and confidently: Teet-teet-teet vroom

Sub zero temps cold engine: At -15° I had to crank probably 6 seconds. It had good cranking speed but would pop-pop-pop-pop-pop then took off My guess is that it's a bit lean at super cold temps

Warm engine restarts trailside It takes more cranking and need to pay attention and keep key on longer-sounds a bit rich

Idle: Warm idle rolls/hunts

Off idle: It has just a hint of off idle lean miss, but nothing drastic and engages clutch smoothly

Irregularities: I have had multiple instances of no fire completely. Not every time, but at times if I roll the key to start without waiting for the pump on these occasions it will not even attempt to fire.

I do have a PCFC installed with a complete zero map loaded. I left it on in case I needed to make changes. I plan to work on the idle a bit to see what happens then probably take it off and see what happens.

Performance: It really feels like it pulls hard. I also changed to the Gates belt in the middle and really liked that change.

Irregularity: This one confuses me. With the stock programming on a launch if I broke traction I would tickle the limiter pretty easily when the track dumped traction. Now it does not seem to even cross 9,000 on launch in same conditions. My guess is that maybe the stock programming was hooking up better then dumping instantaneously and the new programming may be breaking traction sooner in a more linear manner that the clutching can keep up with???

Fuel economy still sucks at 12mpg max on a good day. This has been true even on days when I ran slow with grandson on sled with me so it's not my aggressive riding style it's probably more track related.

What mileage, track and gear's you have, I used to get 12 at best, now with over 2500 miles and clutch set up just about the way I want, I am getting 15 all day long, and I ride pretty hard.

I am at about 1600 miles. I had 21/49 (2.33) gears and now have 24/49 (2.04) gears. One big issue is that my track is the 1.7 lug sno-x track that is extra stiff.

Thought you said your almost done with that track, I got the 1.6 ice cobra, great on trail, plenty of hook up and you can still power slide around the corners, even off trail in Munising couldn't get stuck in 40" of fluff.

Well how is everybodies Non turbo EVO Flash doing after getting some seat time? Any issues with them to be concerned about ?

I am curious about this too. I hear in this thread that everyone likes the EVO flash for better starting and smoother idle, good midrange pull, etc. That's nice but, has anyone seen where going to the 2.75 flash or any flash level has increased their top speed x amount of miles or made it easy to get to 100 mph every time. Not just when all conditions are magical and perfect. Just curious as I really want to get the high octane flash this summer if someone can assure me of measurable gains.

I'd like to know this too. Was going to try and dump the viper for an upgrade to the Sidewinder but this might be a bunch cheaper. I know it's the same hp but between taking a hit on resale for 15 with 842 miles on it, and 16k prices tag... I could buy another sled it seems and have a nice thing for the gf&kid to play with or a buddy.

If I was into wasting money and had to have the latest and greatest I would wait for the 2018 Sidewinder. I am skeptical and reluctant to act on 1st year products. The EVO flash seems to have helped response/snap and starting is decent, but not perfect. No real gain in top speed. I could not duplicate what I saw last season, BUT conditions were not the same either.

I'm still curious. Any end of season updates?
