Well it's almost July and it's time for me to plan some summertime mods. I bought a leftover 14 LTX SE last Labor Day. Season 1 I had a blast (minus clutching) on the sled. I updated rear skid shocks to QS3 and plan to do the front evol kits this summer. Engine I've done DIY airbox mod and have a MBRP pipe. So what I'm debating is buy extended warranty or do the EVO flash. I never had a kickback yet and it fires right up. I've yet receive anything from Yamaha in regards to their reflash and every dealer in Iowa seems clueless when I ask. So I'm wanting to get my clutching dialed in & do the stage 4 flash and add the header pipe. Would I be nuts to skip extended warranty and do the flash? Clutching I have the ulmer kit and I'm not very pleased. I'm close to ditching it and going big venom. My kit now I have had apart 5 different times last season to add more weight but yet every ride I was bouncing off the rev limiter. I would like to speak more with Allen and get it dialed in.

Side note...does ulmer close in the summer? I'm on week 2 of calling & leaving messages and I've sent an email. I would have bought head pipe from him but would like to speak with him 1st.

ulmer works in the agriculture industry and has limited time during farming season. he will get back to you.

He also wrenches on a monster tractor pull team that campaigns all summer. He has had my viper drag sled for 2 years now and not even an email from him.

ok thanks for the info guys. Good to know.

I've also had no luck getting in contact with him.

I give up. I know it's not sled season but like others I like to do some work on sled over summer when not in season. It's been over 3 weeks of me trying and left phone messages and email. Not a word back.

No disrespect or ragging on Alan so don't take this that way.

I bought a used big venom kit here on classifieds and shagman got back to me w/ a recommendation for a starting point w/in 24 hours. It was close to spot on. Still plan on playing with it but the response time was exceptional given being in mid season. Just something to consider.

Are you running the 8jp belt? Why I ask is because I was running a 8dn then switched to thejp again and within 1500km it needed clutch weight! Turns out it was just hanging up dew to belt dust in the primary. Cleaned it really good and ended up taking the weight out again. Next season it's gonna be 8dn only.

I am still running the 8jp but going to switch to the 8DN. The belt dust is ridiculous

That is most likely your problem! My primary would not close by itself after 1500km with the jp on sitting on the bench with no spring. Needed a good push.
