On one of my 03's I had to take it off and my other 03 it came out on it's own.

05 and 06 sleds do not have shields so why bother keeping them on the 03 ad 04. When I had my 03, I lost it on a saddle bag trip and never looked back. I had 4500 mile on the sled that year and traded it.
