Heat Shield cracking. What did or should Yamaha do about it

I had a cracked shield last year and didn't even know it til this year when I pulled the whole track and exhaust off.

Yamaha does make just the heat shield. They have acknowledged a problem to my dealer. I had my old one welded up and now have the spare shield for when this goes next time.

I think it'll be a chronic minor problem due to design. Each side should have a rivet mount, not the center.

I had the same problem last season, took it to my dealer for warrantee repair I was denied the warrantee on the heat sheilds because they were scratched, this made me sick.
I paid 240 dollars to have them replace the shields and they rattle worse than they did when I brought it in, guess who is getting a call Monday?

My last years one fell right out and stayed out . Seen one on the side of the trail this weekend. No need to have it in there if you ask me. if it comes out leave it out.

I removed all of my heat shields when I converted to a 136 this fall. Running 1.325 studs with no problems and no annoying rattling. Take a die grinder to the rivets... problem solved.

Heat shield cracked after 2000 miles, heard a rattle at low speed and looked under in the back. :( Two large cracks at the back end of the shield. Dealer told it will be covered under warranty. They better or I may have to talk to my lawyer......

i had my seat off to get at gutting my exhaust at 1100 miles and there it was cracked on both side ,im not too impressed with warranty so far from yamaha ,only thing they have covered so far is the belly pan screws that have stripped out, chrome fell off snowflap, not covered, piss poor seat period(hard, ride 2 days in a row and sides swell 2 inches from ice, material wrinkles where your butt sits, did i mention hard,of course my twice broken tail bone from quadzilla mishaps doesnt help, not covered, rubber grommets on corner of cowling by gas tank fell off,not covered but new design for 04,imagine that ,little stuff like this is what a lot of us ask for and it would make a lot of us happy but seems like yamaha doest want to part with low dollar items when we paid a lot for their sleds and to top it off it didnt come with a $7 spanner wrench to adjust the suspension, that just plain sucks
