Exhaust Heat Shield

The heat shield on my dads sled has completely failed and fallen down. I've been reading threads all night about the failing heat shields around the exhaust manifold and I can't decide what to do. It sounds like some people think that the stick on stuff from the auto store will be fine but few have actually tried it. I hate to replace it with another Yamaha one and have it fail again in a couple years like others have reported. Thoughts?

What year? The part has been updated from the original in my 07.

It's a 2009 RTX. Do you know what they changed about it?

The tabs were a better designed to hold the heat material in place on the aluminum. I didn't take any pictures on the new one.

I replaced mine about three years ago but I don't know when the changed the part number.

I used one of the old covers to sandwich the shielding in the new cover. It has held up well and is a good test since my front hole is also closed. No problems.

Is a post here somewhere.SnoNinja did similar. Its not burning up it just gets loose and disintegrates.

That is a good idea. I happened to find used shield that has the fiberglass intact from a 07 last night on ebay for $17 bucks and free shipping. I figured for 17 bucks it's worth a shot. I'm going to have to tear my sled apart now an check it on mine as well. Thanks for the tip.

mine was bad on its 4th year after 5000 mile, the replacement looked identical 2 years ago to my factory one on my 09' so I'm not sure when they updated it.
