I have a chance to buy a used Expert X in excellent condition. Does any one have this skid in their Apex? Will it fit into my '07 Apex RTX (which has the Pro Action not the Mono skid)? Do I need an install kit? The skid has about 1000 miles on it and was in a 2006 Ski-Doo Grand Touring.

I have it in my Warrior. Great skid, works well. It will fit in an Apex. You can order the install kit from AD Bovin.

For me it has a way better ride than the stock skid. Can't reallly say about the RTX. Has great transfer and as for top speed, personlly can't say if there is any difference because I have a turbo in mine.

I have one in my Attak. Can't tell you for sure about the ride as my shocks were bad when I purchased mine. BUT, when I pulled it a week ago to remove the shocks for service, my hyfax were fine, my idlers were fine, and all my rails , arms and brackets were crack and rust free. Transfer is better than my mono. I do have the DTR, but chose to try the skid without it first. Mine is a 136 setback to a 144. Approach angle is excellent. Gets up on top of the UP powder very well. Transfer,IMHO, isn't excessive and is very controllable. As far as an install kit, I just fabbed my own external mounts and used the info in the tech section for an install in an RX1. All dimensions were correct and it bolts in very easy. I did have to fab spacer plates for the front and rear internal mounts. I used 1/8 stainless for the front and 1/4 for the rear. everything looked good when I pulled the skid. Any other questions just ask!

I installed Wahl involute drivers to help with the dreaded racheting problem that plagues all of us Apex owners. I noticed on AD Boivin's instructions for the RX-1 install that the measurement for the mounting location of their skid is based onthe diameter of the drivers. Because i'm running anti-rachet drivers, do I measure from the tip of the driver or from the smooth face ? Do I need an install kit from AD or can I just fabricate my own?

I do have the Boivin mounting plates. You will use these to determine the spacing for the rear set of holes. I can have that dimension for you if you need it. Once you view the instructions and actually see how relatively easy this skid install you'll be amazed. i KNOW I can do one in less than HALF the time I took doing mine LOL!!

The reason for this is very simple -- as the suspension compresses, it *tightens* slightly, and tilting into high transfer does NOT loosen the track. This is entirely unlike Yam OEM skids, which LOOSEN under compression or high transfer, which results in ratcheting.
The only thing that the anti-ratchet drivers will do is slow you down.
It's a lot of work to change the drivers back to stock. Is it really worth it?

If I had known I was going with the Poo suspension I would not have installed them.
A race team might make a case for using them on the less rotating weight concept. Not going to touch the "slower" argument other than to say it didn't seem to affect mine. If I decide to change the driveshaft, or if replacing it once broken, I'm not going to reinstall either. FWIW
Done deal. I bought it today. Thanks to all of you who twisted my arm. Now I need advice. Do I need the install kit or not?
By the way, the dealer I bought the skid from has another just like it. Same condition. (excellent) Any one interested in an Expert X?
