Extra engine cooling

I was wondering if any of you folks add any extra heat exchangers when running stock or turbo sleds?

Regards,

Otter

No extra cooling, just had to install the fan on my 07 FX. Fan finally started cycling after I installed the turbo. It had never turned on after I installed it until I installed the turbo this winter.

Well this weekend i tried liquid performance antifreeze. It seemed to improve my over heating problems greatly. But didnt cure it 100 percent. As far as i can tell the over heat light comes on at 98 c. Now i got to think about what to do next.

do u have the fan? i cna let mine sit and idle for ever after riding it hard and have never seen the light come on. just hear the fan kicking. we just leave my sled running when ever we stop and some one doesnt ahve a flash light. let it run for about 45 mins friday night when my buddys sled was blowing coolent out and we coundnt get to the hose clamp he put on wrong.

Mine never over heats idling either. It is when iam driving it hard in soft snow and the front heat exchanger plugs up with snow and then over heats. I think i will try engine ice and see if that helps.

AS much as I like Engine Ice in my mx bike, I would check the freeze point of it. I do not believe that it is cold enough for a prairie winter. From their website, "freeze-up protection to -27° F."

Well i got some engine ice coolant on the way. Its good for -34c i believe. I hope this cures my problems, iam sure it cant make them worse.

coolant

I run engine ice in mine , sled runs around 185 - 195 while riding , when I idle sitting still it goes up to the low 200 ,s . What is normal operating temps ?I also have the Daytona digital temp gauge .

Few questions

Does your heat exchanger build up with snow?? WHat temp does it go to when this happens. Mine goes to 208 f and the light comes on when iam driving it to the bar and my heat exchanger plugs up. 185 f is when the thermostat opens . I should have my engine ice tommorrow so i will give it a try this weekend. It realy ticks me off this thing over heats when i play in the snow.

Well i got the engine ice coolant put in last night and i sprayed the front heat exchanger down with silicone spray to see if will shred the snow better. I will keep you posted

i actually modified the right side panel some. i drilled some holes under the cooler to let water drain out, my overheating issues have been sliced in half. as far as coolant is concerned i just use prestone anti-freeze with a richer mix then normal (ussually around 65:35 coolant to water mix). seams to get the job done...i have no fan btw,

The fan is a priceless add on. I have 2 phazers and I ran an experiment for about a season.

I bought a fan for one of the sleds (Yamaha Dealer Sucked!!!! Condottas in Wenatchee, WA - NEVER GO THERE!!!). I was having problems with both my sleds overheating in a variation of conditions. Low and behold, the one with the fan stopped overheating, while the one without continued to overheat.

Now, I found a dealer that believes in customer service (Valley Saw & Cycle in Leavenworth, WA - GREAT PLACE!!!!!). I walked in and explained the story to them how the other dealer wouldn't even call yamaha to ask about a fix. Well this new dealer called and got Yamaha to buy a fan for the second sled. THEN, I called yamaha and explained my story/experiment and they sent me a check for the first fan I bought ALONG WITH APPOLOGIZING FOR THE CRAPPY DEALER IN WENATCHEE!

A dealer that is willing to call Yamaha goes a long ways!!! A dealer that thinks they are the end all be all of service is missing out on the info that the parent company is supplying.

Just my 2 cents, get a fan.
