Extra engine cooling

Well i changed to Engine ice coolant and put in some octane boost . I also sprayed the front heat exchnger with silicone spray to try and prevent snow build up on the heat exchanger. Last night i put on over 10 miles up and down a lake clost to home. It was just above freezing. My front heat exchanger was plugging up as usual when i stopped to check it. I even had snow starting to blocking the screen protecting my radiator. The highest my engine temp got up to was 88c. The sled was really pulling hard. Been wondering if the premium gas i have been burning has been actually premium. Thinking maybe part of my heating problem has been to low of octane. With to low of octane maybe the timing was being turned back and the engine has been laboring to hard in the soft snow. Be putting on a few more miles this weekend and will report back. I got some really good octane boost to make sure fuel is not an issue.

The best thing I did for the overheating problem was putting on the 1.5" freeride track. it eats up that critical extra bit of space between the track lugs and the heat exchanger and doesn't allow the ice to build up in there.

I ordered a free ride today so i will have it installed for next weekend and see how it goes

Well still got the over heat light to come on twice today. I hope the freeride track cures my problem as nothing else has been 100% effective.

you will find the motor doesn't have to work as hard with the freeride on, Otter did you get the fan installed on your sled? thats the biggest difference right there if not.

I agree. You need the fan.Freeride will help since sled wont be working so hard to get on top snow but without fan its going to throw the light in those conditions especially if you ever do bury the sled.

My machine has the fan on it from day one when i picked it up. I got the free ride track this afternoon and just finished putting it on. 550 bucks is an expensive fix so i sure hope you guys are right about this. It is definetly a nice looking track Still considering either lighting up my weights in the tips or gearing down the machine a bit but iam going to wait till i give the new track a test drive. Wish me luck

i found this week end if i curz under 30 the yellow warning light for temp comes on but never saw the over heat light. it was also high 30s out tho and the snow was sticky and not realt throwing, but if i was on the hammer and riding hard would never see the light. but as soon as i droped under 30 for more then 3-4 mins light would come on and id have to pop off the trail in the deep hammer it once or twice an it would turn right off. im guessing no snow getting to the exchanger at low speeds.

Is the fan running?Since its been established you have the fan I am concerned something else is going on here even without Freeride it should not be overheating.

Have you made sure you got all the air out of your cooling system after the thermostat opens? Blipping the throttle sometimes helps when the sled is running. You may want to jack up the front of the sled, while it is running, also to make sure you get all the air out. Just a thought. This is of course with the cooling system uncapped.
