Fastest gear on snow....21/38...22/38...23/40

I'm running the stock 1.25 ripsaw. I guess my extra lbs help me hook up..LOL.

The stock ripsaw is pretty tough to beat on hard pack snow for traction
Butt a predator track will be better on trail cover with loose snow and with a good stud pattern you will be able to launch fast in about any condition.

Spec rtx,
Are you running the 1.325 in a 1" track?
I haven't ordered my studs yet. I ordered a 1" predator and want to stud it with as long a stud as I can. Can you run 1.325 or 1.450 in a 1" track? I believe that I can only run 1.175. Any feed back on this guy's.

1.175 on a 1" Predator will give you 1/2" penetration.

Yesterday i order a 40 bottom gear, i will let you knot the result with 23/40 gearing and a mono suspension.

I've been using the 23/40 all season in my attak.
I'm using pro-line clutching and iceripper XT, I have only been beaten by 2 sleds.
Both 200 HP modified 1000 Thundercat triples. I can hang with them to about 90, then they drive away.
Every other sled I have come across, I can drive away from.
This includes some supposed fast iron.
The F1000's
The F7's
The 800 ski-doo xp's, I am really surprised they are as slow as they are.
960 big-bored fusion, makes alot of noise and goes no where.
Haven't run up against a Mach yet.
It amazes me what the 150 HP four-stroke will do against the lighter and higher HP two-strokes.
I clutch mine to run @ 10700.

Just an update... Well, I ran my Apex this weekend with the 23/40 gearing and pulled 111.1 on my GPS on a Hard packed groomed trail @28F or -2C on a 3000+ ft run. The conditions were hard, but not rock hard. The groomer was out 1 day prior to me running, so it took the top base off. It' not like it rained on it overtime and then harded up. Just typical spring weather with above freezing during the day and below freezing at night. You get the picture.... It pulled there really strong and got to a 100 real quick. I think if I could of got it out before 9:00AM, I would of broke 113+. It was 11:30AM and was -2 celcius when I left the truck and drove 15miles on my sled to the place where I could run it. It was -8C @9:00AM. On a hard road with this gearing and my clutches cut for the OD, I believe I could get 116-118. So IMO, for groomed trail riding the 23/40 seems to work the best. I will have one more shot at it next weekend and I was reving @10,700-10,800, so I need to pull some tip weight, and see what it does up @11,000rpm for a top end run. I did not get to run my buds F1000 to see if or what I really gained because he blew his stator and is waiting for another one from AC. Hopefully he gets it back this weekend.

10700-10800 is perfect. You don't want it over that without the powercomander. 10900-11200 and it starts to pull timing back and reduce HP on a stock machine.

Mike, I have the PCIII and Ignition Controller. It still advancing the timing up to 11,250. @+3degrees and giving her fuel as well.

I have the 23/40 in my sled now for 2 week, and it is very fast from 0-100 MPH,did not have a chance to try on hard condition yet but got 107 mph on soft snow.

I also adjust my C to C aligment and offset with Ulmer tool,I adjust my rpm with the 23/40 at 10800 RPM but on a long pull my Rpm come down to 10500,it is over shifting and it never did that before.

What can i do for NOT over shifting when no more power?

PS: the 23/40 gearing is very fast on snow, this is the one i will keep in my sled :die

Not sure, Call Ulmer Or maybe Mike can chine in. That is not hapening to mine. How did you adjust the RPM? Maybe tighten the secondary from 80-90 degrees? Did you have traction by the time the RPM's started pulling down? At what speed does it start pulling down?

You definately do NOT want to run anything taller than a 1.175" woody's in a 1" track. Anything longer will be WAYYYYYYYYY too long.

The snow was i bit loose and it is over shifting at top end...around 104-105 MPH and drop to 10500 and stay there.I will try the pink spring at 6-1 to see the difference,if it's not enough i have the white too lol.

23t

Ran last friday in the U.P. with my 23/40 gearing. Rode several miles close to home but no flat out riding. So the U.P. trip was a good test. The gear works great in my opinion. Trails were slow snow with temps in the upper30's to low forty's all day and sunny.
Pulled hard as heck to 100mph, calouses on my hands still hurt from fridays ride. LOL Best top speed was 114mph on a 1+mile run, again the snow was slow snow. Buds 600ho fusion ran 96mph and to get it there he thought it was going to blow up. LOL I guess thats a good comparable?
I pull out of the box at 10,400 then slowly up to 10,800 which I think is spot on for my sled. I also run the PC111, igntion box, mod exhaust, ram air, etc, etc
also will add that with the snow conditions I used almost 10 gal of gas in 100 miles!I've never seen mileage this bad, but my buds 600 ran dry with 12gal on board and the Apex got us gas. LOL
Also will add, I have never seen these speeds without the mods or gear! Running 126 dream meter on soft snow is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, You still running the stock clutching? If you are going for broke all out top end, bring it up to 11,000RPM. Ulmer keeps adding fuel and timing up to 11,250, then the rev limiter kicks in after that. I pulled 111.3 on my GPS in 2000ft on a groomed trail in pretty much the same condition as you on Saturday. Temps were 28-30 degrees when I started playing and 32-34 when I was done. Are you running 23/40 or 23/38 gearing?
