Hello all you 4 stroke Folks. I finally did it. Went out and Bought an 03 RX1. After running a year with Nitous on my 99 T-cat and loving it. I have done some homework and found that on the contrary to what my buddie tells me that "4 strokes are for old folks" A 4 stroke is the way to go. :nos Going to build up my Rx1 engine with gorilla rods, forged pistons, steel wrist pins and a few more little tricks, then put a progressive Nos system on it. Then we will see what my buddie has to say about 4 strokes. :jump: I cant wait for the snow to fly... :4STroke:

Welcome to the site, and have fun on your RX-1. With all that engine work, you should be able to throw lots of spray to that thing. Sounds like a blast.

Please take a moment and enter your location in your user profile so that other members know where you are located. ;)!

I run a 80 shot based on a NX kit and wow its stupid fast on the gas. Going to go back to a 40-60 next year. Takes too much nitrous and last for about 30 seconds tops. It was good for 138 real mph though :)

Have fun and welcome to the club. Save a little money to make the 03 handle well if your a aggressive driver and it will be bar none the most fun you can have on snow. LOVE mine after I hated it for a year, then made the changes and wow you have to pry me off the seat in the winter.

I got a 03 RX-1 liquid silver and it seemed like a nice ride. I might be interested in doing the ski, sway bar update. Kinger, could you elaborate some on it?

Go with a 13mm sway bar from pioneerperformance.net, longer 75mm end links that connect teh sway bar to the a arms, and on teh 03's switch to straight rate springs. It will not dive or lift the ski in the corners like it does now. Ski's are only really needed if your real aggressive. The curve XS look to be real promising. Otherwise both the simmons and C&A pro razors worked very well. I use bergstrom carbides and shim the rubber ski mount, no darting, great steering, and little to no plowing.

Welcome to the site.

I used to ride Cats in the late 80s and all 90s. Came back to Yamaha in '01 (SX700R), went 4stroke in '03 (RX-1), still have the sled. I have done a lot of mods to make it perform, engine, suspension and ergonomics - so has many others done.

Feel free to ask, you will get the help you need.

WELCOME catzazz, im glad you jumped ship from
the dark side and may the force i mean fork be
with you!! hope you enjoy your yammie as much

change of plans.

Got a good deal on an 06 Attak. So plans have changed. Going to build the attak and probably sell the rx1

If you can afford it you may want to hold onto the 03. depending on your riding style you may like the riding style of the RX vs the Attack. With the right updates the 03 will smoke the Attack unless you are a off trail rider then you gain a bit with the 136 track but both are submarines in deep powder.

My 03 and 05 have 13 mm sway bars, Simmons skis, Ohlin clikers on the front. the 03 has a Bender Reaction mono-shock conversion rear end. I ride "A - Lot" over 6000 miles last year and I ride with about 6 to 7 guys regularly that are on Apexes, Attacks, F-7's, Dragon 700, REV 800 and other assorted sleds and no-one can keep up with even the stock motor 05 drag racing and on the tight twisties forget about it.

I rode the 05 1 time as a stock sled and could not believe how bad it was. I rolled it at 15 mph on a road crossing. I parked it.

I bought the Ohlins for $ 495.00 and Simmons skis $225 on Ebay and the sway bar from Pioneer Performance $169.00 and then played with the limiter strap and shock settings for one full day and now have a sled that will out handle anything on snow. There is very little ski lift. I can ride the most beat up trails (doing 5 - 500 mile days this year) without back fatigue and I can throw it into any corner as fast as I have the kohoneys to drive it and it never puts a ski off trail.

I owned an 06 Apex and hated it. Rider forward is nice for boondocking but does not work with my riding style and I always felt hunched over when sitting down. They are very twitchy and have the tendancy to go from in control to uh oh in a flash.

They feel fast but I can assure you that after well over 50 side by side lake and trail races with Apexes I have never lost by more than 1/2 a sled in a 1/4 mile (depending on hook up) and have blown by them on top end after I put the heel clicker clutch kit and the overdrive sheathe on the primary.
