Hey guy's I have a quick question about my first oil change! I'm heading on a big sled trip Monday morning and will not have time to reach the 800 km mark to do the recommended oil change till then. Is it okay to do it early(@700kms) or could I wait until I'm back with 1200kms on the machine

I'm sure everyone has a different opinion, but I would for sure do it early...and I'd check the chain tension also. Better safe than sorry. Can always change it again later if one feels the need.

thanks i was leaning towards doing It early! Not sure if Yamaha uses s specific break in oil from new? if so probably good to get it changed sooner than later I will check the tension (as per manual spec and adjust if necessary) and give it a once over.

I did mine before 300 miles. I also added a Filtermag SS250 to the spin on oil filter before the first service. Plenty of ferrous goo inside the filter when I cut it open.

thanks !! What is a filter mag ss350 just curious!!

I can't wait for Monday this our annual boys trip to my camp trails are like highways north of here. Once there we will be indulging in a few brewsky's and bs'ing about who's faster or what makes better!!lol Then the next day we are ice fishing on a few remote lakes then back to camp for more bs talk accompanied by a few more beers. Allway's a great time without the ladies ( no need to be on our best behaviour..lol)

Filtermag is a reuseable band of super strong magnets. It attaches to the outside or the filter and grabs and holds ferrous metal particles before they even reach the filter media.

In light of your present situation I guess if a service is not practical prior to the trip I probably would not sweat it.

I'm going to get a oil change kit right now and will do it this afternoon! do the dealers sell Filtermag sounds like a good add on

I couldn't do mine until around 1500km. No issues.

I brought it in for a full overhaul/servicing after that.

Earlier better then later. Clean all the break in out, even at 300 miles IMO.

Watch that the oil filter rubber o ring comes off, the first oil change the rubber o ring sticks to the housing and if you do not see it and put on the new filter it will run for a while then blow it and all your oil out. Several Yamaha dealers have even done this.

Thanks for the heads up!!!!;)!;)!;)! It was stuck if you wouldn't of mentioned this I would have left it without noticing

Also watch the O-ring on the oil tank drain and a washer on the engine drain. Cat kits give you replacements for these. My dealer did not sell a kit, it was all sold separately.
