Well got out and had my first real ride on the RX-1 yesterday. Snow in this province seems to be hard to come by this year, especially south of the forest, so we loaded up and headed up into the forest/lake region. Decent snow conditions at least for this year. It was a great ride, got to do a bunch of different terrain and really get a feel for the yammi. Did a 230km ride on a trail system, through a few lakes, on some nice flats, through some hilly regions, etc. So far overall I'm really impressed with my RX. Power and overall feel of the sled especially on the trails was good, especially once I got a feel for the engine braking system. Being the only 4stroke in the group I was really glad that I had a 4! As is usually the case a few of the 2 strokes had a few minor issues along the way and other than a '12 switchback I used the least fuel by far. We didn't flat out race but I could certainly keep up and although the big bore polaris' of the group would probably have an edge (especially that new switch, I know it's pretty heavily modded but that new suspension is pretty sweet!) I was quite happy with my machine. After a ride like that I know there are definatley a few things I would like to change. I knew what I was getting into buying this machine. Did a ton of research and talked to owners so I knew the issues going in but the suspension does leave a little to be desired. Probably not the worst I've ever ridden but could use an upgrade. Hopefully my nytro skid install for next year will help cure this problem. I'm not a small guy (6'1 210lbs) so I bottomed her out good a couple times and the moguls on some of the trails beat me up pretty good. My major issue is the bars and seat. The bars are so low I can't hardly stand up and ride which is a pain especially on the bumpy trails, and the seat plain old sucks in my opinion. So an apex seat or modding this seat and a bar riser and mountain cables are definatley in my future! So I'm very glad I went with the yammi instead of a 2 stroke and although it has it's issues every sled does. I'll get the minor issues taken care of like the riser and seat and that should even help quite a bit. While this is no power machine I knew that going in and am fine with it. The weight didn't bother me one bit but then again I'm a fairly big guy and have no trouble throwing the machine around. Might have to buy a nice light 2 stroke if I was gonna ditch bang or powder ride but this machine suits my needs just fine with a few minor mods!

rx1

once you get it set up and clutched you will like it more.i have a 05 rx1 once i got the darting issue cured and starting to get it clutched right i also nstalled polaris wheels in my mono skid the slids last alot longer.keep setting it up and you will smile each time

Don't mod the stock rx1 seat, get the apex seat.
"while this is no power machine" REALLY are you serious. I think it's prety dam good. Good luck with your mods they are fun to do.

I think he meant to say "powder"

Haha yup thanks for the correction nb that's exactly what I meant. Power is great but in powder the RX isn't of much use. O well it's not like I live in the mountians anyway. Prairie/forest trail or lake riding mostly for me!

Put a set of wider skis on and she will float much much better even at slow speeds. Do the air box mod and clutching and you will be surprised at how many sleds you will keep up to and pass.

Changing the rear suspension is the best upgrade that I have done. The Monoshock is like night and day when it comes to the bumps.

Ok, yeah that makes sence. I agree with what sled dog says about the wider skis. My buddy has a 07 venture with wide skis and it float on the powder alot better than my rx1. It seems to be more stable turning in the powder also.
