Man I can see why there are over 200 pages on dootalk about the sidewinder. This is going nowhere as far as analysis!

Yamaha was in on the development of the procross chassis. Started in 2008 with cat. Cat released in 2012.

Sorry, rephrase.......develope a purpose built chassis to house that new powerplant.......
jt...glad you like it...what other than the studs is done to it so far?
SJ, absolutely nothing. Trying to understand it. I thought I was going to turn it up a notch, but after my first ride on Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised.
The last time I felt that kind of power was from a crotch rocket.......
Going to sit on the sidelines, enjoy it, and learn...... Joe

Took my Ltx out for a quick ride on our block roads with 9 inches of fresh powder so I could not wind her up much (lakes are not frozen yet). I could only get her up to 120kmh in certain spots, very smooth with lots of spinning track. I might have to play with the transfer.. The one thing I noticed after my short ride is a very strong smell of hot plastic which seems to be coming from the muffler side.

Keep an eye out. I didn't get any unusual or overbearing smells. Only rode 6 miles.
I did notice my temp gauge 2/3 or what looked like, definitely past the halfway point.

i'm thinking Yamaha will be soon 2nd in sales, because polaris is going nowhere and Arctic cat is loosing sales to yamaha...if they get a 2 stroke in the lineup they will go to 2nd place IMO
I would say that both Yamaha and Arctic are benefiting from this engine greatly. My local AC dealer is pushing 9000 series sleds like there is no tomorrow. And one by one, the green camp is loving this engine. Since my local Yamaha dealer gave up on sleds, I would hate to say that I would consider an AC to get my hands on a sled with the 998t. There is something to be said about local support.
Sorry, I had to slap myself in the face, sit back down in front of my keyboard and remind myself that I cannot own a green sled. (AC does make some nice SXS in a Yamaha Blue, its called Viper Blue)

Hopefully it's just your slides(hyfax)breaking in. I get that sometimes right after changing them where you have to be careful not to stop unless they are nice and cooled down or they will stick.

I did look at that line and I thought I might add another tie wrap to it to keep it tighter to the post.

Man I can see why there are over 200 pages on dootalk about the sidewinder. This is going nowhere as far as analysis!
So I just logged into DooTalk and read the first two pages and the last two pages of that 200+ page thread. The most entertaining part about it is how the first two pages are filled with spring order 850 owners thumping their chest on unsubstantiated claims on HP and performance, to the last two pages of the same guys telling the rest of the group what little things it may or may not take for them to flip to the dark side.
I think that is a big statement as it is very hard to talk bad about, or even admit that something may be better after dropping that much coin on the flagship for your favorite brand. Yamaha and AC are really making people think twice about their chosen steed if not making them jump ship the month of trail opening!! It's also amazing how HP can change ones mind.
When all stock hypersleds are around 160-165hp, you can nitpick about fit and finish, or discolored plastics or dealer support, or lack of warranty support. Knowing very well that nobody in the big-4 made junk. But when one is 30-40hp higher then then next, things like seat foam density, and gauge clusters and even ergos get thrown out the window. It's still a factor, but the true power junkies are jumping ship for the most stock hp they can buy and still keep warranty on.
Just like back in the day when the ProCross 1100T was released and the landscape in the UP went from Apex dominated to 1100t dominated. I would bet that places like the UP and Quebec will be filled with anything powered by the 998t sooner rather than later. I could be way off base.
What surprises me is when an animal like this is released, just how many guys can pull $14,000-$16,000 out when they used to bark about trying to find a carry over under $10K!

Brand loyalty blurs ones vision. Understand your own personal desires and choose a sled that matches best.
Skidoo makes a top notch sled, no doubt. But, where they can't deliver, it's time to move on. No biggie.
I hope Yamaha/Cat gain strength from this collaboration. And keep delivering the goods!!!
