Posted his on Snowest but thought I'd post it here too

Just got back from putting 34 miles on my MTX. Half of it was deep snow the other half was trail riding.

Pros
- carves extremely easily and feels very light
- great power
- great fuel economy so far (I only put in 2.7 gal. after so I got 12.5 mpg)
- very solid feeling chassis and the running boards are sweet. Awesome traction and they actually don't build up that much snow.

Cons
- bar riser sucks, I need to go up another 2" and forward about 4".
- the maverick track sucks
- rear suspension is too soft
- front shocks are worthless, I have them on the stiffest setting and they still bottomed. Without any jumping even!
- the swaybar hangs down just asking to be snagged on a rock

I'm getting a different riser, 153x15x2.25 challenger, Fox Floats and ditching the swaybar, and stiffening up the rear skid. Then it will be an awesome sled.

Where did you find snow?

I just ordered the Powermadd pivot adapter and a 5" riser. The Floats on the RTX are longer than than MTX I think. I found a new 153 challenger in fairbanks for $425 so I'm good on the track.

I'm not sure on the rear suspension. I need to play with it a little more. I started with the transfer rods backed all the way off for max transfer but then it makes the supsension super soft so I moved them back up and it helped.

bummer on the front shocks,as i want to take my sway bar out..guess ill have to get them revalved..im already changing out the rear zx2 should be here anyday..gonna get a riser and adapter..track is coming off as well..maverick no good for me.......is the power what you expected?(coming off a 800 twin)

I was impressed with the power. My 800 Rev was ported and ripped so of course this isn't close, but it does rip for what it is. I don't feel any need to add power, at least not this year ;)

I'd even bet money that on the mountain it will come down to rider ability. The best thing about riding the MTX is that we're the underdog to every 800 twin.

I was messing with my stock bar riser and bar angle today and I just don't think they are high enough...I may add on another 2 inches.

Thanks for the report....I am guessing that you have a standard, right?

Nikolai,

Thanks for the ride report. Curious why you don't just get stiffer springs and rebuild the front shocks, along with stiffer springs in the rear. Wouldn't this be cheaper than getting floats in the front?

Keep thinking about getting the MTX, but most of the people I know keep telling me it is too heavy.

Did you think that the MTX carves better than the REV?

How does it compare to the M and RMK sleds?

Thanks

Are you refering to the rear strap on the skid??? If so, when you pulled it down (tighter) it stiffened the suspension???? Very interesting.

I've had Floats before which is why I'm getting another set. They're awesome shocks for jumping. I could rebuild the stock shocks but after so many rebuilds you'll have paid for a set of Floats.

The people saying it's heavy are the ones reading the specs and not riding it. I had a 450 lb 160 HP Rev before the nytro and the Nytro honestly feels light. The Nytro would carve better if it didn't dive because of the crappy shocks (which is getting fixed).

I haven't ridden the IQ RMK but I've ridden M sleds and can't get comfortable. I went from the rev to the nytro and felt right at home.

Got the Powermadd adapter and 4" pivot riser so that alone should help tremendously. I'm riding again Friday and Sunday so we'll see how everything works this time.
