What a great start to the winter. I rode 440 miles on my 2010 xtx in the UP of mich. Most of the riding was off trail. The sled rode and ran great. This is my first Yamaha and first 4stroke. Very cold temps and hand warmers worked well. Night riding through the deep snow was a bitc... head light always totally covered. There are too many topics to review all of them in this post. If anyone wants specifics just ask.

I did my first ride coming off a REV this last weekend.... The sled reminds me allot of my REV once set up

My first four stroke; it's a learning curve; not better or worse worse.. just different... by 300 miles this last weekend on the XTX and I'm becoming very comfortable and contrary to what the mags say.. I don't find the sled "unpredicatable".. the other riders in my group on Older REV 800s where also impressed; the 15 mpg was a nice plus as well

It's colder than the REV.. and I too also found out..deep snow at night (or the day for that matter) and the headlight is buried. The 09 handwarmers need some work though... I "may" need to upgrade on those

My verdict so far...... I pulled it out of the barn on Sunday for a ride instead of the REV... no regrets so far

Come on show us some pics because you know some cant ride yet. Seeing someone ride helps a little. lol

Happy to hear you love your yamaha

I too am coming off a Rev, 05 adrenilin. My 1st day mph 11.8 2nd day 12.5 3rd 13.5 4th 14.5mph. Lots of snow and ice build-up every where. I noticed the bogie wheels on top were incased in ice and not turning, thankfully didn't flat spot them. I had a chance to push it hard through the twisties, stock skis, 4" carbides, handled great, very predicable.

Pics from the UP.

I rode from Wakefield to Mass City and around the area Friday - Sunday. The photos above were taken on a forest road. There's lots of cover on the forest roads and very little traffic. And for me it's also very easy to get lost on the forest roads.

The base on most of the trails is still pretty thin and there are a lot of wet and muddy spots that could spoil a ride if you're not careful. From Bergland the trails get more cover as you go north and west. The groomers were out doing their thing everyday.

how is the off trail? sinking to the bottom yet or is there a small base under it all??

Post 1

The majority of the snow in the area I rode came in on Wednesday. It hasn't had much time to settle in and pack down. Since I have a 121" track and didn't get too crazy blazing any trails except for my run to the top of the quarry (center photo) and on one mile-long section of forest road. The short track had a lot of work to do in un-tracked snow but it managed to stay afloat with a little speed. The 6" wide Simmons clearly made a difference here.

I rode up on TugHill in upstate NY on saturday. The riding was awesome!! there was a little bit of mud near barnes corners but all the other trails had a good base and the groomers were even out!! I had a blast.

I was riding an area from Grand Marqais to Seney. They got 19 1/2" of snow in a twenty four hour period, on top of what they already had. I did alot of brakng trail and I was impressed with how the xtx did.

You are all very lucky to have that much snow... All of us in NW Ontario are chomping at the bit to go riding! Good news is that the temperature has been so low over the last week and a half that there will be plenty of ice around the chritmas holidays... so even if there is little snow on the trails the lakes are fair game!

Good to hear all the stories! Keep em' comming!
