Flex pipe pain!

Don't hold your breath. Yamaha doesnt seem to give two turds about their customers.

As far as I know, once your VIN has been submitted for warranty and they pull up your sled's history, it will show if you've had a tune installed and then all warranty under YPP is voided.
 

Ridiculous! A heat shield will not fail IF flex pipe doesn't fail first. Typical response from poorly educated and ignorant dealers and even Yamaha. They are all in denial that these sleds have some serious problems. This one in particular should set off alarm bells!
(Same goes for the exploding Team clutches). Operators could be, and are being seriously hurt.

This is why I hope as people experience serious issues like this, they will report it to the Consumer Product Safety Safety Commission who has a big stick and can make a difference for us, even if we can't as individuals.

That has not been the case with my dealer and my 5 year warranty. I would expect problems with that if it had been motor problems, but I am sure my dealer would work with me still!
Heck he still warranties a used 17 RTX that was bought used inVermont that also had the 5 year warranty!
Dealer matters, that’s why my tunes went through them!

I mean what has a heated seat, or shaft and bearing failure, or other stuff that has been warrantied have to do with a tune!

Absolutely correct Dennis,heck woody did warrenty on my driveshaft,and max 16 tune and mod muffler,and i did not buy my sled from him either.
 
My first call to the dealer was in Quebec and was with regards to the fire and my initial inspection revealing the burnt heat shield and hole in the gas tank. He told me that the heat shield was a wear item and that would not be covered under warranty. I did not realize the flex pipe was broken at that time. Now that I have it apart, I’m hoping they will re consider knowing that it was the failed flex pipe that was the root cause.

Heat shield is not a wear item. Brake pads are. That’s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Maybe if it was on bottom of a car or light truck and rusted out.
 
I cant say enough good about Woodys in Topsham. They took care of me when I bought my RX1 when the motor blew and I didnt even buy it there. I have bought all of my sleds there now. Mine is stock, but they have taken care of every issue that I have reported. They have always tried to fit me in as well as quick as possible to get me back on the trail.
 
Not only 998's. I have a 2018 Vector with the 1049 & 4,800 miles on it & the flex pipe is already broken. On the last 3 Vectors that I have owned I have never had to replace the flex pipe & these machines had over 10,000 miles on them. I think that they are using a cheaper material on the newer sleds.

Probably true about the material. Inconel is triple the price of 316 stainless steel. If there’s one thing China knows how 2 do it’s using cheap metals in their products.
I worked for Flexonics years ago, this stuff was so expensive that if a material handler damaged a coil of Inconel they pretty much $hit canned them on the spot.
