Around last friday I recieved a package from Whiteknuckle containing a heat shield that they recommend installing on the exhaust. They included install instrutions and stated the reason was to protect the insulation on the under side of the seat. I had the seat off for a factory fix for a ripped seam and didn't notice any apparant heat discolloration under the seat after 500+ miles on the sled with the QC-1 system. Was just wondering if you all got this and did you install it. Also, did you notice any evidence of high temps concidering the heads up from Whiteknuckle performance? I though it was great bussiness etiquite to send this out especially since I haven't heard of any complaints about this problem on here. :D

It sure is great when a company does something like this. I am very close to ordering this pipe for my RX-1 mountain too. Please let us know what your impressions were of the pipe. You have 500 miles on this setup and we'd LOVE to hear.
I guess if this heat shield is added the 11 lb. weight savings will be cut down by several pounds. How much does the heat shiled weigh? I am also looking at some of the other brands of pipes as well. I will E mail Dynotech and tell Jim to do a RX-1 pipe shootout. Powder Blue

I haven't heard anything about the shield. I bought mine through my dealer though not from White Knuckle. I will have to check with them.

PB; I don't have a scale sensitive enough to weigh the shield. It is definately less than 1 lb. My only scale is a bathroom scale and it doesn't even move the dial. To tell the truth, I thought the box was empty when I picked it up.I'm sure I saved more than 11 lbs because I left the debris shield on my stock exhaust and this new heat shield is lighter than that.

As far as my impressions of the system, I like it. The guy at Whiteknuckle made a jetting change suggestion but at my riding alltitude in Cooke City, MT (7600-11000) the jetting seems to be spot on by checking plug color. The sound of this system is similar to a piped bike at idle but when you hit the throttle it is a little louder with what can only be described as a "crack" sound 8) when first accelerating. Like Spray has said there was a couple hundred rpm gained just by installing. Seat of the pants throttle response seemed to be a little better too when going through deeper snow. But like all of us mountain riders I purchased for the weight savings rather than claimed performance gains. I'm definately going to purchase a Turbo kit that will alow the bolt up of this exhaust when the budget permits :D

This season will be the first year with the new carb bowls so hopefully I see more than 45 mph track speed when climbing. It is my opinion that on the hills I did get stuck on the incline was just enough to starve the engine to the point of just shy of cutting completly out. With the one time that is did cut out when the hill got steep alot quicker.

I got the transfer enhancement and light weight battery from MPI coming so there will be another 15 lbs gone shortly. By mid season there will be a Boss seat on my sled too.

When I ordered mine we had a long conversation about their product and he metioned that one sled had a problem at the back of the seat. I recieved this shield with my order. Its just a cover like what was welded to the stock muffler. He didn't seem to concered about it. Probably just covering their #*$&@. Who knows what happened or why. Shield just weighs a few oz.

When I sell my 151 RX-1 mountain track the money is definately going toward someones pipe. I sure like the stock like crossover on the bender pipe though but the weight savings aren't nearly as attractive. Hum???
I haven't ridden Cooke yet with mine. I would like to get over there again this winter. My wife's cousin has a cabin on Colter pass that we ride from.

I got the heat shield in the mail last week. Instructions said that it was to protect the fiberglass under the seat but unfortunately mine already fell off. I contacted Arne at WhiteKnuckle and he is kind enough to look into the problem for me and send me something to replace the fiberglass if needed. I couldn't be more impressed with his buisiness etiquette and I couldn't be happier with the product and the way I have been treated. Not many company's out there that really care about the customer anymore!

you can see the heat shield in the pic.

Focker, did you notice any heat damage with the insulation gone? I think I'll go ahead and install the new shield sent to me just for piece of mind. Especially considering that Arne was good enough to send this out to those of us that purchased his exhaust last year.

I haven't really noticed anything as far as the seat goes but I have not removed it from last year yet. However. one of my side covers is kind of tweaked all out of shape, not sure exactly what thats all about. I will definately put the heat shield in and Arne is supposed to get back to me about the fiberglass issue, as far as what to do about it.
