Looking to upgrade stock RS with either Ohlins shocks on front and rear or the new Fox Float shocks on the front. Does anyone have any experience with the new Fox Float shocks? Had Ohlins on my SRX and thought they were much better than stock shocks. Price comparison between fox ($899.95 US) vs ($800 US) Ohlins, is the extra $100 worth it. Have read a couple of articles really touting how good the Fox shocks are. Maybe I will upgrade front with Fox and use Ohlins on the rear skid. Any input or experience with either is welcome. Waiting for snow and already spending money on a sled that hasn't even left the garage yet...This is a sickness!

let me know if you want to sell your stock shocks for a good price(cheap) I think I might want them because I didn't get the shocks that I was expecting on my rs venture.

Milljk, I recently was at a Dealers that sold Cat and Yammies, the cats had the fox, I pushed down the front ends and the fox felt weak, and took a long time to return, compared to the stock shocks on the yammie. I run Ohlins and love them. You can get a better price on the Ohlins @ Port Yamaha, ask for Kevin, tell him that Indy sent you.

I have very little hope for the air shock. Its old technology. Just marketing hype. I had a pair of FOX air shoks on a dirt bike back in the early 80's. They were just OK. You're far better off with Ohlins or WORKS.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am going to go with the Ohlins. I don't think I'll be dissapointed. I will probably recoup half the cost, selling the stock shocks. Probably will post them on e-bay eventually for sale. See ya on the trails.

If you haven't ridden it yet, see if you dealer will do a swap, mine did a swap when I bought my 05rx1 and it only cost me $300 for the Olins on the front installed. Just a thought.

Think of it this way... You ever drive a car with a blown tire..
Thats whats going to happen to these sleds when the shock blows...
It has no spring to hold it up!

I had my dealer add the Ohlin to the rear to go along with the Ohlin fronts. It will be well worth it. I am curious as to how the Ohlin's adjustability will compair to the stock mono. I havn't heard anyone comment here on that....yet..... but in my daydreams it works awsome. I'm sure it will. PK

Ohlins Installed
Hey Guys, Installed new Ohlins after debating Fox or Ohlins. Got fronts and rears as well. The rear shock actually has Oil Resevoir and Dampening Adjustment like the fronts. This was a suprise to myself and dealer as it was not in the spec sheet on them when bought. Actually lighter than rear shock to boot. Can't wait to ride it. The only problem I can see is that may need more clearance around the front resevoir and side trim. Anyone have to do this yet? Here are a couple of pics of setup.

I guess I haven't felt the Ohlins on front yet, but my 07 Nytro came with the Fox Floats. I gotta say that I haven't had better front shocks on anything. I absolutely love them. I have complaints about my rear suspension, but not a single one about my front. I have about 2300 miles on my sled (not enough!) and they feel like they day I took it off the showroom floor. I'll probably be pissed if I have to rebuild them anytime soon though!

The preassure on the Floats was probably way too low, therefore felt too weak.
You also have to take into consideration that the Fox Floats are much lighter then a spring shock, which counts alot for some.
I had Öhlins in the skid on my old Exciter, and the sled was much better to ride with the Öhlins, so I don't question the quality of Öhlins. Remember, Yamaha is part owner of the company, and use them on their MotoGP bikes, so they for sure works
