smokingcrater said:Bobby said:hey smokingcrater , before buying the original fox float pump i tried some mountain bike pumps and they where worthless , they dont pump has much psi has the fox . trust me u need the fox pump or some realy hy grade kind espescialy my mega float that requires minimum 170 psi for my weight, try that whith your mountain bike pump.
been there done that .
Umm, I run 220 psi in my fox vanilla float mountain bike shock. The pump that came with my mountain bike is fox branded, fox shock... It is 100% identical to the one that came with my snowmobile, and I use them interchangeably.
Maybe you were using a tire pump? Mountain bike shock pumps are the same as snowmobile pumps...
loll my apologie , you are right about the tire pump . doh!!

Well shocks are in the mail, so to speak. Looking forward to a softer ride and a bit less jarring on the bumps.

I hope you are not disappointed with the fact that (IMO) the clicker adjustments don't make the shock go from "soft" to "firm". The clicker adjusts the compression (assuming it's a single clicker) only and really only works when the shock is "heated" up from absorbing a lot of bumps. The Gytr shocks are likely valved very stiff and personally I would recommend having them revalved by a good shock shop to give you a more compliant ride. The Fox Floats give you the ability (if I understand them correctly) to adjust the ride (via psi pressure) to your liking. I had to have my front shocks revalved 3X before I got it to ride how I wanted across all conditions.

there are 2 adjustments (rebound and compression) plus the spring adjustment on the GYTR shock, it also has the reservior to keep them from fading. small adjustments will make a hugh difference on the ride. I know just a turn or 2 on my rear shock in my XTX makes a big difference, same goes with my ohlins on my SRX. IMO, a lot easier turning the knobs then having to take out the pump everytime to make adjustments. Plus you don't have to worry about blowing out a shock on the trail, at least this way you still have the spring to get you home. Heard some guys blowing out the rear shock and not being able to ride it. i'm sure it doesn't happen very often but why take the chance when you're 2 days ride away from your trailer or from a dealer. I'm sure he will not be disappointed. getting mine rebuilt this week and can't wait to add them to the front of my sled.

I have the stock shocks on my 03 rx1 and I have really noticed how harsh the are since I put my zx2 skid in. The skid would soak up the bumps on the trails and the lakes but the when the front of the sled hit them they would toss the the sled around. When I took my buddies nytro for a spin last week I couldn't believe how his GYTR shock smoothed out the front of the sled. I'm sure they will be a definate improvement over the stock shocks. For $200 bucks I will take the chance and if the need a revalue I will get one. I'm sure the floats are a good shock, they have to be because ther are lots of them out there, but there is just something about pumping air into them in the winter time that doesn't appeal to me. Wouldnt the air expand and contract with fluctuations in temp. It can go from -5c to -35c from day to day around here and I don't want to have to worry about adjusting pressures. I want to set it and go. I wish I had the cash to but both sets to compare them. I guess I will find out because they are on the way.
I was going to put the ad up for the fox floats in case someone wanted them but they are sold and the ad was removed.

For $200 they will be a big improvement over the stockers. Enjoy!

You are talking about rear skid shocks. I am talking about front ski shocks.

no i'm talking about the front GYTR piggy backs and i'm assuming the OP is also. i referred to my rear XTX shock because it has the compression adjustment and how noticable that is so the fronts with both adjustments will be even more noticable. i also referred to the rear air shock puking on some guys and not being able to drive so the fronts would be just as bad if one leaks. you would have nothing to hold the sled up to get it somewhere and you would more then likely damage the shock if driving it with no air.
unless i read his post incorrectly i belevie he was referring to the fronts as well..
