I have a 2011 apex SE with fox air shocks. I want to take out the skid so that I can paint it up. Is it easier to let air out of the shock to take the skid out. If so how much can I let out and not damage the shock

Yank the rear bolt out of the transfer rod by pushing down on the skid slightly. Then pull the rear bolts that hold skid and then the front bolts and it will literally fall out.
