Hey everyone,
I have an 08 RTX that I stretched to a 144 and also did the front skid shock revalve and balljoint machining (which helped tremendously) . I have float I's on the front and it seems that running about 55 psi in them makes the sled a lot more trail friendly, but then I lose ground clearance.
I am debating about picking up some conventional shocks (GYTR or maybe just some stock ones), Otherwise I see that Fox is making an EVOL kit for the Float I's. Will the EVOL kit have higher ground clearance while not being so stiff? I am wondering if anyone has tried the new kits or what my best option is within a reasonable price.

Hygear is having a sale on their Dual Pressure reservoirs which work like the EVOL kit but are easier to install. I run the EVOL on my 2008 Nytro and would recommend having the Floats revalved also. I added the EVOL to lower the ride height pressure without bottoming: http://hygearsuspension.com/DualPressure.php

If you need more ground clearance and a plush ride you might want to look into a longer front shock similar to the new Viper. Many are upgrading their Nytros with the new Viper 18.25" Fox Front shox. I performed the same upgrade on my Nytro and it made a huge difference in ride and control.

From my experience in used parts I get more requests for coil over gytr shocks than fox floats. In general i think coil over shocks offer a more forgiving ride for trail riders. The fox floats really shine in real aggressive conditions. If you opt for some coil overs I do have a set of gytr clickers for $400. I would have a set of std 17.5 coil overs with no resi for $200. I also have a set of ohlins piggyback resis shocks that would be a direct fit onto a nytro. $400 for them.

I also believe most are happier with the coil over shocks. The Floats tend to a bit harsh and even with some modifications still aren't as plush as the coils can be. The Ohlins would be a good shock up front on a Nytro. From my experience in used parts I get more requests for coil over gytr shocks than fox floats. I have a set of Ohlins for the front I used on my 08 RTX Nytro, too short for the Viper I have now so they are for sale. Compression adjustable only but worked great! $400 plus shipping to you.

Hey guys sorry for taking so long to respond. I am just getting settled into my new place before school starts up tomorrow. I have heard so many different opinions on fox floats that its just mind boggling. However, it is apparent that the vast majority of people I have spoken too or read on the forum is coil overs seem to be the shock of choice. I am just concerned with dumping money into the Float and not being happy with the end results. I will probably be going the coil over route.
Thanks guys
